Cumulus in house traffic

It means that if they have an in house product that's what they will use. Seen the past couple of days stories about Billy Bush being removed from a couple of Cumulus stations and Levin, Batchelor and Red Eye Radio getting added to Cumulus stations. Good bye to Nolan, Debbie, Heather, Scott, Noam and all the other Metro employees who are heard on WABC and WPLJ. Perhaps also good bye Rush, hello Huckabee, as they use the recent controversy to get rid of Rush and clear the new Huickabee show on many Cumulkus stations.

That means that all of the Cumulus stations would get traffic reports in New York City, and maybe Hudson Vallley is also be getting a traffic reports on many Cumulus stations in the Hudson Valley including WPDH, WKXP, WZAD, WCZX, WRRV, WRRB, WPDA and WKNY. I've been listened to any of the Cumulus Hudson Valley stations including "The Wolf" because of the lack of traffic updates on afternoon drive. CC Hudson Valley also has a traffic report during afternoon drive. As for "The Wolf" one of the Cumulus country stations, they only had a traffic report in morning during Jack Hammer's "Morning Wolf Den" where he gives them some traffic updates in mornings. Why not hire any traffic people to do mornings and afternoons on all Cumulus HV stations. Just wait and see.

I can't see Scott and Todd taking too lightly if they where to ever loose nolan. plus you'd have a listener revolt just like when Citadel fired Bill Evans and replaced him with that washed up media moron Perez Hilton. THAT was a fun bit of radio listening when that kid didn't even show up for his report on time.

Such a shame that Scott can't buy PLJ and get it back on track. All these big cheap/bottom line businesses are sucking the life and fun out of radio :)

Good bye to Nolan, Debbie, Heather, Scott, Noam and all the other Metro employees who are heard on WABC and WPLJ.

Noam Laydon works for Metro? Are you sure? He seems to be physically at the station, or at least has lots of air time including the 5-6 news hour and Geraldo.

It seems like Debbie Duhaime has been doing traffic mornings on WABC forever.

Yeah, I don't see them replacing Rush with Huckabee. The "controversy" will, as it always does, blow over and soon be forgotten. More facts are coming out about the 30 year old "student" activist that Rush referred to. Seems she's not the innocent little mouse that the media played her up to be.

But back to the business at hand, it would be insanely stupid to flush Rush for Huckabee on WABC. His ratings may be lower than other times, but he still bills well. I'm sure Imus and Rush are the two top billers at WABC, with Hannity third.

Cumulus may be somewhat on the lighter side of spending, but they're also not dumb enough to flush their middays down the toilet with Huckabee in NYC.

I forgot about debbie. she has a good traffic voice, but as far as fitting into programing, she doesn't add much to the conversation except awkward laughter. Not exactly my favorite fill in because of it.

There are many metro employees that physically work at the stations instead of the main metro studios. THey are called "key talent". That being said in alot of markets a non-compete would keep them from being able to work for Cumulus. Not sure of the deal in NYC.

Speaking of Cumulus, AllAccess is reporting they are dropping the syndicated Billy Bush Show from all of their stations that ran it.
It has been airing on WPLJ from 9pm-12 midnight, and is still listed on their website.
Can anyone confirm whether it was still on last night?
I wonder whether Cumulus intends to have a local personality on 'PLJ during that time period.

what,if anything would this mean to joe nolan working on eyewittness news?

Because the traffic reports on Channel-7 are likely to continue to be provided by the same company, and under the same contracts, that are in place now, a likely guess is that Joe Nolan will be faced with a choice of staying with his current employer and keeping his TV spot, or joining the new Cumulus traffic operation and doing WPLJ, but no longer doing TV. Remember it's been a while since WABC, and WPLJ were owned by the same company as WABC-TV.

You would have to wonder if Cumulus would want to hang a big enough carrot out there for Nolan to change employers again at this point in his career, and give up TV? He might also be wise to wonder how long the current PLJ format will continue and whether his "Key Talent" star power would matter to a new radio audience. Something tells me he stays where he is and on TV, and Cumulus hires new, and cheaper, people to read the traffic reports on WPLJ and WABC radio.

Cumulus may even do their company traffic reports from one central location, with one traffic reporter doing Detroit traffic one minute, and New York the next, and LA traffic a couple of hours later. If the computers are gathering the data and putting scripts on the screens the traffic reporters can be anywhere. And its a lot cheaper to do radio outside New York. Cumulus is bringing as much content inside as it can, so it can control costs and keep more of the revenue generated for itself. They might make an exception for the top market, but than again, its all about counting and keeping pennies, isn't it?

starting to hate the cloud already :). I didn't even think about the TV option. maybe with 20 years of staying power, they can convince them to keep nolan around anyway?

Personally, I hope Joe goes back into the studio like he used to be during the first ten or so years and gives up TV. who needs to get up 1AM for a 4 AM broadcast anyway?)

Oh, don't bet the ranch that they won't drop Rush Limbaugh. Since his show is syndicated through Premiere (a division of Clear Channel), Cumulus equates carrying Premiere programming with supporting a competitor. Since the merger with Citadel, in which Cumulus acquired Citadel Media Networks (the former ABC Radio Networks), Cumulus is making all of its owned stations drop any non-Cumulus syndicated programming that they currently carry and run Cumulus programming in its place.

"Lighter side of spending"? No, CHEAP is the correct word here. In 40 years in the industry, I have never seen a cheaper company in broadcasting...or a worse one! In many markets, they are even letting their physical plants deteriorate because it is a chore to get permission to order parts.

It all depends on what Rush bills on WABC. If Huckabee comes on and billing goes way down, which I suspect it will, then they're worse off than running a Premiere show.

They could be cheap, but again, not that stupid to throw the baby out with the bath water. Billy Bush wasn't lighting the world on fire anyway, and was nowhere near the name Limbaugh is. And was also on at night. This is a different ballgame at WABC. If they let him go, you can bet your ass that WOR will show Joan Hamburg the door and turn into a real talk radio station, shuffle their other talent and finally wipe WABC off the dial.

One of the problems with a lot of folks is that you still think these "new" radio companies care about ratings...they don't! All they care about is money and the bottom line! If WABC is losing spots due to Rush and if they are paying big bucks to carry Rush, then where is a financial advantage of keeping him on the air? If they don;t pay for Huckabee and if they make about the same as with Rush, then they are ahead of the game. Factor in not paying Clear Channel money and keeping it in house and they are very happy! Money is king to these companies not being #1 in ratings.

well, nolan is back... that's always a good sign... no idea how long it usually takes the cloud to implement changes once announced though..
