Cumulus in the Hudson Valley Needs an All-News Station

If you want an all-news station in the Hudson Valley, look at Cumulus' WYAY in Atlanta. They kicked off since yesterday and did a great on 106.7 doing "Traffic & Weather" together and the top news stories of the day. If you want an FM news station in the HV, this needs to have it on. Listen up, Cumulus! Look at the CC station such as WRWD, it's a good country station and TLW does a great job bringing him back to mornings after a 3-year absence. I hope he will do better than Jack Hammer. I wish if any Cumulus could flip to an all-news format from country's competitor "The Wolf", they should bring a lot of "Wolf" listeners to WRWD. I'm sick with the "Your News in the Minute" report from YNN when it was being heard during "Morning Wolf Den" with Jack Hammer, replacing John Purfigglio. Why not have a national news story rather than just local news stories. Jack Hammer did have the YNN's "Your News in the Minute" report with just local news stuff not world and current events stuff.

Cumulus like I said needs an all-news station like the one that is already launched in Atlanta. Hopefully they should put it on either 94.3 or 97.3 or both, and they simulcast YNN and call it "All-News 94.3/97.3" and it needs to be a 24-hour news station. Look at WCBS-AM. They did well in the HV area and it does reached well and it's a 50 kw blowtorch while 1010 WINS are listenable in some spots. Look at "The Wolf's" ratings in the past Poughkeepsie books, they didn't do well in previous years. If you want an all-news station, go right ahead. And if the Yankees are on this station, stick with the Yankees while it's going to be on a news station. Cumulus needs to wake up and smell the coffee.

The biggest problem with all news, is the expense. It has been looked at before... I know that Clear Channel looked at doing it back in 2004-5 but... it's expensive. Labor and overhead etc. WKIP was modeled to fill that void. Strong local news, weather and traffic at top bottom and quarters. Of course, since Rick Knight was let go and they took most of the local news/traffic out of the market... all that has gone by the way side.

Maybe you should talk to Cumulus for that. WKXP/WZAD's "The Wolf" didn't do so well in previous Poughkeepsie ratings books during the last 6 or 7 years as a country station back when it was "Kicks 94.3". It is still going head-to-head with its rival WRWD and TLW as I said did a great job since he came back after a 3-year hiatus. CJ and Dee did a excellent show but I love CJ a lot better than TJW, but I would love to see CJ coming back to the Hudson Valley on another CHR station maybe "K104" or maybe "Kiss-FM" should bring CJ back to mornings as the return of "CJ's Playhouse" and it's going to replace Elvis Duran.

To get back to the "All-News" thing, Cumulus is going to have local news from YNN as well as the "Your News in a Minute" reports like they did with mornings with "The Wolf" during Jack Hammer's "Morning Wolf Den", to included that, some traffic and weather reports and of course some world and national events from ABC News. "Fox Oldies" and other Fox stations carried the hourly newscast from ABC News, but who owns the hourly newscasts? Cumulus. That's right! Cumulus indeed. They should put it on an "All-News" station, Atlanta did a great job with the "All-News" format on 106.7 which is also Cumulus, but why not put it on FM, 94.3 and 97.3 should do that, and maybe they should still have Yankees baseball from WCBS-AM on there. This is going to be the future of Hudson Valley radio to have an FM news station to carry local news from YNN, some national and current events from ABC News and some traffic and weather together. That would be great for Cumulus to do it. Get the facts straight!

"Get the facts straight!"

What facts? Your posts never make any sense! Stop huffing paint from your parents basment.

Not sure what facts you are referring to? The fact is that you have to fill the hour with content. It might be possible with syndicated content... the stuff you mention even repeating it several times an hour - you need more. Also, will it be accepted if you don't have a big local presence. Not sure just having the YNN stuff would be enough. At this point, Cumulus hasn't pulled off any local traffic ... at least Clear Channel still has local traffic reports that are custom for the market - even if they are generated out of NYC or Long Island. The Metro Reports on the Fox are bad. Craig tonight covered 84 and the newburgh beacon bridge twice in the same report... and even other road you could find between Albany and NYC. God, shut up already.

If Cumulus would launch an all news format, they could simply use the Full ABC information network. Fox is only carrying the ABC new Now which is FM newscast - 60 seconds that tons of station run. It's the new hot thing. The ABC information network is a full 5 minutes newscast at the top of the hour.

On the Wolf, they should have just moved Jack down to afternoon drive, Beth to midday and taken CJ & Dee and plugged them into mornings.... rebrand the image of Wolf to go after WRWD. The station is hurting. The only local talent is Tommy... and he is not on his game... he's a shell of what he once was (which was a great talent) and even if he was what he once was the fine folks at CC wouldn't let him do it anyway. It's 10 songs an hour, do this here and here.... run in auto mode ..we'll tell you where to stop and once again no time for content... 10 songs an hour (in this case it's 9).
