Cumulus is making some changes in Mobile/Pensacola

Stay tuned tomorrow for WABD's announcement for a "BIG jump to the left" at 7:20 am. With the recent purchase of two giant 100KW stations, 102.7 here in Milton, and 92.9 in Mobile, my money will be on 92.9 as 102.7 is a big cash cow for both Mobile and Pensacola. Despite were flooded with country stations. BLX's signal is clearly heard here in Ft Walton. It be the wise choice as HMN's signal sucks.

i expect the WABD staff to be joining the unemployment line soon, jan probably found out that the staff has talent..and we all know that cumulus doesn't exactly like talented folks on their chr stations.

It would be unwise to move them now that the station is finally gathering traction with listeners. Both 94.1 and 102.7 are Pensacola-licensed which means nothing in the grand scheme of things but their ratings seem to favor Pensacola over Mobile. WABD would be wise to continue playing to Mobile and letting HMN basically have a crack at Pensacola.

Wouldn't it be crazy though if they made a sweetheart deal with K-Love to swap frequencies? CHR would land back on 97.5 and K-Love could have 104.1. I'm not making that prediction, but it would be kinda funny.

Having said all that, 94.1 and 102.7 are both redundant formats in these markets, so it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to see one shuffled off this mortal coil.

No, I think this is set in stone:

Station Owner:
Educational Media Foundation
find stations owned by Educational Media Foundation
this feature is only available to Gold Customers

I really predict BLX, heritage stations don't mean anything to crapulus. If they ruin BLX, a lot of urban fans would be upset.

I know before a station makes a change, they have to get approved by the FCC. When 97.5 made the switch, it was already owned by EMF.

case in point, heritage top 40 station WHHY Montgomery, a monster signal that was once breaking new songs/artists left and right at it's peak in the 80's is now worthless and a joke due to jan jeffries.

Cumulus will not touch BLX, period. Unless they really want that building burned to the ground because half the city would be fuming.

Whatever Cumulus does with WABD, I'm pretty sure FT. Walton won't be in the thinking with Cumulus stations already in that market.

WHHY was destroyed long before Cumulus took it over. Anyone remember WJCC "Cat Country?" It was a CHR in the early 90's when no one wanted to be a CHR and went country. Cumulus did little more than put the WHHY calls back on 101.9 and launch a brand new station to take it out of competition with their WLWI. No, it's not as a good as the original one was, but it's not a continuation of the original either.

Yes I do.

That was one big mistake indeed.

WHHY hasn't been the same since their comeback.

Their best days are way behind them.

Yup..Mcdonald broadcasting took over and flipped it to WJCC Cat Country 102, even repainted the coke boom box and hhad a racecar that ran at Montogmery Motorspeedway and down at five flags in mobile.

when Cumulus brought the Heritage calls back, they tried to keep it as the station was "pre-cat country" but the nail in the coffin was trying to against Urban WZHT by changing to a chr/urban format and calling themselves "The Beat of Montgomery"...more like the laughing stock of central alabama ha ha!

If it is 97.5 their signal is crap here. Not sure if it's the station or what, however, getting interference (and the signal is at full strength with RDS) from nearby 98.1 - maybe I'll be able to hear their IBOC signal. If it is 97.5 - what about 102.7?

-Rob

www.975wabd.com was registered on July 2nd. Maybe that's why the on-air sound on 104.1 has been so crappy--it was never meant as more than a temporary stay.

Pretty shrewd move Cumulus.

Someone on WABD's Facebook page said they heard a "weird voice insert" saying it was moving to 97.5 and to set your presets now, lol. Uh, did someone let the cat out of the bag early? ;D

If this is the case, why did Cumulus feel the need to change the COL from Atmore to Saraland and make a small engineering change to the TX site? And will the HD migrate to 97.5 or will it be left with K-Love? They only run one HD station, in Arizona.

OK, now something makes sense. A while back EMF filed for a main studio waiver and to switch to non-commercial operation. They sent a follow up letter in May asking those to be dismissed, saying they would remain commercial and operate from a local studio.

I'm convinced now the stations are switching places!

It's been announced - 97.5 WABD (or WABB??) which means 104.1 will more then be Krap Love (ugh)

-Rob

I heard the announcement on the radio too after learning from this message board that there would be an announcement on Monday, since I rarely listen to WABD-FM's programming or any music programming from local radio stations because most of them lack the types of music I prefer to hear on the radio such as some of the types of music for "Radio Avalon" (from WZEW-FM), which I rarely hear due to its late timeslot. Even though WABD-FM would switch to the former frequency of WABB-FM with the same format and some of WABB-FM's former employees, it is still a different radio station operating under different ownership and a different facility.

I doubt the folks at Cumulus Media would change the call letters for WABD-FM to WABB-FM, since those call letters are still in use by WABB-AM and the idea of using the call letters would give some folks the idea that the WABB-FM of the past is back in spite of the different ownership and broadcast facility. It is best to leave the call letters WABB-FM to the past.

There is no need to call K-LOVE out of its proper name if you don't like the format.
