Cumulus KC shuffle coming

Their new Facebook page is just called 107.3 the Vibe, whereas in SLC it is Power 94.9/101.9 when they simculcast.

I don't know if I'd read too much into that, at least not yet.

I'm just not sure what Cumulus could put on 95.7 that might do better than what's currently there. Admittedly, I haven't seen the numbers in more than 10 years, and the last time I'd seen them was before everyone had access to unlimited music in their pockets. KCHZ, at the time, however, was #1 in Douglas County by a large margin. It also drew respectable numbers in Johnson County. Getting advertisers in Douglas County who will pay KC rates has always been a challenge. KU affiliated businesses/operations or chains with locations throughout the metro might be interested in those numbers, but you're not going to do much Lawrence business unless you drop your rates. So, I get that those numbers might not be that important to Cumulus, but whatever it does on 95.7 is going to get the bulk of listeners on the Kansas side. I'm hard-pressed to think of anything that will do better there than what it's currently doing.

They could put a mainstream AC (I would not call KCKC that and KMAJ is only on the very western end and does not register to KC) or a soft AC (if it doesn't skew too old.)

I suppose Cumulus could, but that very western end is Douglas County, where KMAJ-FM performs somewhat well. Cumulus would be diluting itself in Lawrence and would need to overperform in Johnson County in order to make up for it if it were to go to AC. With virtually any format other than CHR, Cumulus is going to cannibalize itself in Lawrence. It needs those numbers if that signal is going to be competitive in the metro.

So, interesting thing....I just went to Facebook to go to the 107-3 The Vibe page and it's there but now its all just text. The logo and previous 2 'likes' are gone. ;)

They either realized what happened or it wasn't a finished product yet.

Also bear in mind that could have been someone messing with us. I suppose anyone could have set up the page and made it look really official. lol

At this point, I have not heard any on-air mention on the zombie 107.3 about its future, nor is KCHZ teasing anything on air.

They killed it and used the existing page for 95.7.

I don’t know but their Facebook post says the Vibe moving to 95.7 and only shows 107-3 The Vibe. That seems to mean whether sooner or later 95.7 won’t be the vibe anymore.

No domain got registered, so I think they will simulcast for at least some time anyway.

Their website address reads as 1073thevibe.com now.

Clearly even if they simulcast it’s vacating 95.7 at some point.
I don't see it as immediate though, if there is no registration, though there might be some plans in place at some point. Though maybe classic country, classic alt...what else does KC not have? Soft AC, but not sure if anyone is launching that these days. KMAJ could move there, perhaps.

With another hard cut and what sounded like a false start, now we have "107.3 the Vibe." They are saying "Move with us to 107.3."

KMAJ has been on 107.7 for years, I doubt they’re moving. I seem to remember they were going to at one point, but I could be getting that confused with V100’s move in that never happened.
