Cumulus KC shuffle coming

So then 95.7 will be conservative talk and 103.7 will be a rhythmic blend likely?
95.7 Domain follows same pattern as the stations launched over the last few weeks registrations wise, 103.7 domain does not. So not sure what will happen with that.

If "Loud" is what is coming to 103.7, could also be Active Rock.

They just had the X though.

BTW - A friend of mine found domains for kctalk957.com and loud1037.com.

Assuming those are Cumulus sites, the first would indicate KCMO will be simulcasting or moving to 95.7. The second would seem to point to either a rock or urban-based format.
I'd lean toward the KCMO theory, since that would provide an FM signal to areas that have trouble getting a nighttime signal from KCMO. This is assuming KCMO has any nighttime listeners.

Not to dive into a small market tangent, but I remember the sale and the news of 100.7 going dark and it was because of ownership caps and such. But then AMI later would go and buy 99.1 KSEK-FM while still owning all the other stations. THAT made me scratch my head about the 100.7 forfeiture.

That was because Pittsburg was a rated market when AMI first Petracom. By the time it bought KSEK, it was no longer rated. With AMI owning KKOW 860, the contour overlap method produced a much larger market.

Pittsburg and Salina-Manhattan didn’t make much sense with they were Arbitron/Nielsen rated markets. Both markets covered a vast amount of land that most of the signals didn’t. Plus, a handful of signals closer to the main cores of each market were excluded. I’m guessing those markets were more desired by advertisers than by the radio stations.

If Cumulus decided it wanted to give KCMO an FM simulcast on 95.7, why not say it? Cumulus has already moved the other two stations, Urban AC to 105.1 and Top 40 to 107.3.

It would make sense, since Audacy has KMBZ-FM at 98.1 doing a talk format.

BTW, with Audacy owning both KMBZ and KMBZ-FM, why do those two stations still use ABC News Radio for their networks? After all, nearly all Audacy all-news and talk stations carry CBS News Radio. Unless KMBZ-AM-FM have a contract with ABC and when it expires, they'll switch to CBS?

The KCMO website has 103.7 in their logos and info:

Uh, can I point something out here? 103.7 in Kansas City is a translator for KCMO, so it appears the domain for loud1037.com has nothing to do with this discussion. KMJK is 107.3. Just saying. Looks like 103.7 and 107.3 got confused and this discussion has gone sideways.

103.7 is a translator for KCMO. It may or may not remain so. It's not permanently tied to 710 and ran a rock format under Cumulus as “103.7 The Dam” around 2010 prior to being a KCMO translator. I believe The Dam was also an HD subchannel of KCFX.

On the one hand, 103.7 would cover a lot of the Missouri side of the metro that 95.7 misses. On the other, the stereo pilot on 95.7 is likely to be turned off, and it will cover more of the metro area when that happens. I'm not convinced the Loud 103.7 domain has anything to do with the 103.7, but it might if Cumulus decides it doesn't need 103.7 for talk anymore.

Yeah, I know. I was just pointing out that I think people read '1037' and started assigning '1073' to it and steered it away from what might happen to KMJK. It would make sense for them to pair 95.7 to KCMO and turn off the carrier to gain a few miles.

I see KCMO to 95.7 as being a logical and decent move to begin positioning an AM powerhouse on the FM with a big stick to prepare for the future of AMs continued demise.

It's been a news/talk format for 33 years, plus some years in the 1980s, starting with Bonneville ownership. I'd have to research this more thoroughly, but I believe KMBZ was an NBC radio affiliate until the plug was pulled on that network. It then went to ABC, which was also in the market on WDAF.

I don't know if anyone is carrying the CBS radio network in the market. It's bounced around all over the place - KCMO, KBEA, KAYQ, possibly others. It was on KCMO when I lived in Kansas City in the 1990s, and also available from St. Joseph's KFEQ. That's no longer the case.

Edit: Fixing St. Joseph call letters. KBEQ - that was quite a slip of the fingers!
