Cumulus-Lexington

I stand as a self-proclaimed Bonehead for not thoroughly reading the reply I fell all over myself apologizing for then later realizing the reply came from one who was so quick to call cowardice, yet posts under various names to avoid recognition. Chicken! At least I remain constant in my postings...

Let's look at voice's reply piecemeal, shall we?

"I had folks call me today and tell me I should read comments from a poster than named me specifically."
[EDIT] Fess up...you come here daily!

"First, I won't resort to childish name calling as ther poster did."
Ther? Not a word. And I just called myself the same childish name.

"I saw Ralph yesterday"
Huzzah. Did you genuflect? Kiss his boots? Like you did when you worked under him?

"Z exploded, Bear was up nicely and the AM was relatively stable, in fact has exactly double the numbers of it's direct competitor and they have UK & in Lexington!"
Yup...Z went up. So did it's direct competitor. Bear? Up 4 tenths compared to 2.5 points against it's direct competitor after you foolishly let the legend of Karl head over there? Great strategy, Patton! Show us more! AM...hmmm...sheer genius in the loss of 2 tenths there. UK? In the Spring? Yeah...we ALL follow UK Baseball.

"I can assure the poster, If I wasn't "capable of doing good radio" I wouldn't have been in this position more than 4 years. It's nice and easy sitting in front of a computer spouting things that could be taken as slander, untrue or just childish. I prefer a man to look me in the eye if he has a problem with me, or at least call me and chat about it, I can respect someone that mans up, has a clue what they're talking about and does it openly instead of a slap in the back of the head and runs away."
In 4 years you've done nothing but let CC run over you like a steamroller. Great work, pro. Slander? Serious accusation dude. Untrue? Where? Childish? Okay...I admit...but so is intimidating everyone who's under you - proving that the only way you can rule is scaring people. And that is counterproductive to the creative process and "good radio" as we both like to say. I assure you in all seriousness...the next time I'm around you, I'll look you in the eye and tell you all I've said here.[EDIT]

I feel sorry for you Robert. I know life handed you weirdness no more or less than all of us; you've just decided to take a negative path in leadership. The turnover in your house speaks loudly. From my personal reply to you, you either know exactly who I am or are completely computer and deductively illiterate. Either way, good luck. MJ will continue to bury you there without a paradigm shift of attitude on your part. Or a real OM taking over. You're a more than competent Talk PD, but handling, supporting and motivating people is not your strong point, and that cheerleader's job is the most important aspect of being an OM over 5 stations. Bon chance, ami.

To all else - sorry for the long diatribe and vent. I'm willing to bet I speak for many this guys left in his wake.

[EDIT-inflammatory]

If it's the Robert I think this pissed off guy is talking about, I back him up. I live on the west coast now and love what I do, not in radio. My life at cumeless lexington was nasty because of Robrt [EDIT] I sell time and do part time on air doing weather and love it now that I don't work under people like this guy. Its intersting to read things from back home and see some things are the same!

[EDIT-inflammatory]

I used to work at the Cumulus cluster. I was rewarded for all of my hard work with an additional pile of no thanks and more work. Radio is dying because big business has taken it over. It will never recover when a 60% guaranteed return quashes a possible 100% or 30% return gamble on creativity.

As far as Robert is concerned. He's a jerk. Robert, you are a jerk. That comment about you intimidating all your employees was right on the money.
You never thank anyone for working hard, you just crap on people when things go wrong.

When people we fear go away fear turns to hate.
When people we love go away it is still love.

In closing the whole cluster is a toilet. Everyone I knew wanted to leave. The only good GM I saw was fired just like the bad ones. Almost everyone was a vulture, too.
It was a truely horrible experience.

Thanks for the validation, Audio and Never. I do feel sorry for the guy because real leadership is just out of his grasp. I only part opinion-wise at one point, Never...by and large, I've seldom worked with people who were cooler and they were all justified in wanting out. The GM(s) I worked with were good guys, just saddled with substandard programming and unfortunately took the misplaced hit.

I'll not post anymore comments that could be construed as inflammatory...I'm weary of the editor deleting the truth. Like the FCC, all it takes is one complaint, apparently.

We in this business are a true band of brothers, and when an incompetent leader steers us to failure, the time-honored Viet Nam era solution of fragging should resound. Too bad for the Dickeys it never occured there.

I forgot, Never...EXCELLENT use of the word "quashes". Not only does it apply in this case, but it's also been mysteriously changed to "squashes" or some other idiotic variation by such revered organizations as Fox News, etc. You are a cunning linguist!! And I admire that immensely!

Bass,

Fox Noise, Cumulus, excellent word-smithing, ruling via fear, roll it all together and is there a little hero worship going on right now in what used to be a good industry? I've no experience with the gentleman with whom you've exchanged jousts here but I am very glad to know you and while sorry that the Commonwealth lost your ability, am very glad that the deep South has gained it. Sounds as if the present management in Lex needs to read the Commonwealth's motto.

Stewy
