CUMULUS LOOKING FOR A FAYETTEVILLE MM

It must be open season on Market Managers inside the braintrust of Cumulus. They just fired their MM in Savannah, GA and now they are posting for the Fayetteville MM position. 11 stations in Fayetteville and Fort Smith. How long did this person last there? Did he come in from the uniform business or is that someone else?

Again? What a losing proposition...for all concerned.

Still, I'd like to see someone give Berenger a little competition. He could use it.

The only good station that they have is 98.3 The Keg. the one they should be ashamed of is 1030 KFAY. The is nothing local on that station at all. In fact, this morning I had a hard time finding school closings. I had to go to TV to find out. Nobody has their act together. 790 KURM, al they wanted to talk about is farm and Hog futures and when the news was on, Kermit could not read at all. Very poor presentation. We need more local radio here in NWA.

Actually the Keg is now at a lowly 2 share and KFAY is sitting at a 4 12+. If anything 98.3 and 92.1 have been disasters since they flipped both of them and swapped freq. RIP CJ Jones.

I think 98.3 The Keg was lost after the freq change. They play decent music and I can see it being popular. Their problem is the listener doesnt know where to find them. The X and the Eagle are both down too. So that tells me that listeners are possibly listening to the Keg but unaware, therfore didnt book them. With ratings down, those listeners went somewhere. The books are not realistic at all. Now 92.1 the Ticket.... wow. I would be interested in knowing how the station does. Good concept though.

92.1 had 0.7 12+. The sports/talk market is extremely watered down, there might be 3 whole shares out there for the 4+ stations doing it but according to the new Fall book that just came out it even that is not the case. As for phantom cume/shares on Keg, dont think so. Thinking such as that has been the downfall of the company here for years, they dont think it could possibly be what they have implemented. With Sam 98 and Keg 92 they had together nearly 6 shares, they traded that in for 3 they got with the format and freq. changes. KLRC, Con. Christian, if you add them in to the Arbitron numbers, would be number 2 in the market right behind KIX, I am not speculating, its a fact, do it yourself on your program. It would have been better to seek out new ground like a Con. Christian. music format, or better yet put KFAY on FM, it now has a 4 share, there is more potential with a news/talk FM than a sports/talk FM here NW Ark.

I heard the other day that Cumulus in Fayettville NC had a market manager that was selling uniforms just 7 or 8 months ago. Guess the uniform business gives him lots of broadcast knowledge to work with his staff. Wonder why they can't make any money. Seems to me they have to many upper management that don't know anything about radio much less broadcast sales. Makes sense to me, hire a person who can spell radio and has one in his/her car.

Yeah trying to get a slice of what is generally an over-saturated sports talk pie might not have been the smartest move. I agree with putting a news talk on one of their FM sticks... I think it would do well with the right programming (including some local) in the NWA. If they HAVE to have a sports talker, move it to the AM 1030 signal. The "New" US 94 trying to add contemporary country to the mix to compete with KIX... may be logical, but just won't work. In the end Bat Fastard is right, somebody needs to step up at Cloud Radio with a vision (and the freedom from corporate to enact it) and make Beringer work a little harder for all those shares.

WBAP in Dallas just added an FM similcast, i agree that might work, dump eith Y 94-9 or the ticket and put on KFAY on FM. They would need to put local news on in the Morning since nobody else hardly does it. Y-94-9 has never preformed, time for a change. All that idiot on KURM does is go on for 5 or 10 minutes about hos sponsors and gives no information. Since I lost 1 XM radio in one of my cars, i am forced to listen to regular radio again.

There is a new MM in NWA - a GUNGHO lady that will get it done and take no prisoners - CC should watch out. It is a NEW DAY in HAWG COUNTRY

O.K.

We'll check back with you in a few months to see how that's working out for you.

Having heard no more since Big Dan's salvo here, I'm kinda wondering...who IS the Market Manager of the Month for the "dark cloud"...and what is she doing to deserve such accolades?
