Cumulus Myrtle Beach Idea

They should do something with 98.5 KISS-FM. We know its half urban ac and half rhythmic/chr. But why doesn't Cumulus just make 98.5 KISS-FM just a Urban AC without the hip hop and rap. And then make one of their other stations Rhythmic/CHR or Urban. It wouldn't hurt Cumulus im sure. If anything it would be a smart thing for them to do. I don't see a problem with flipping Sunny 106.5 these days. We got Yes 94.5, Easy 105.9 and 107.1 The Sound to fill its place. How about 106.5 Jamz "Blazin The Most Hip Hop" This also as Im starting to see Mix 97.7 is playing a lot of the new current hip hop songs these days. From Soilder Boyz to A Bay Bay - Hurricane Chris. Sure they are trying to fill the void by playing all the hits and filling in where a hip hop station would do well. So whats everyones opinion on this? I think it would work real well in Myrtle Beach by giving it a fill time Urban AC and fill time Rhythmic/ CHR or Urban station.

;D I agree with that idea! Being from Chucktown, Myrtle Beach was always the spot for a quick getaway and Bike Weekend during Memorial Day. When HOT 98.9 was blazin Chucktown their signal filled that hip-hop void in the Grand Strand and thats all we'd listen to up there. Im assuming the problem is the African American population in Myrtle Beach isn't large enough to support an UrbanAC and Urban station, so KISS 98.5 is trying to cover both parties. IMO, one station playing "Todays R&B and Old School" and one playing "Nonstop Blazin Hip-Hop" would be nice for that area.

The Myrtle Beach radio stations also serve Conway and Georgetown which are big towns. And I am sure some of the teens in high school and kids that go to Coastal and Tech would like this station. Myrtle Beach needs some change on the dial. I believe the only reason is that Cumulus is to cheap to do anything. I would hope it isn't cause we can get Coast 97.3 from Wilmington, NC which is owned by Cumulus and is Rhythmic/CHR. And Next Media their stations are performing well with Star 92.1, Wave 104.1 and 101.7 KZQ so I doubt they would want to flip.

I have a better idea for Cumulus MB... bulldoze their crappy studios and start again! ;D

What about flipping Hot 100 to urban and leaving kiss as Adult Urban?

The signal sucks. Over on Mix 97.7 their making fun of Hot 100.3 calling it a static mess. Heard that when they said their station ID in between songs. You can't even hear this station in Pawleys Island which isn't to bad as you can get B 92 and 95wssx from Charleston. But Hot 100 you can't get sometimes in Myrtle Beach.

I say move Sunny to the static mess at 100.3 and use 106.5 the stronger signal for the format. Its being wasted right now with the oldies/classic hit mess that once used to be a great oldies station.

There is actually urban AC on Kiss? Maybe I wasn't listening at the right time of day last time I was in the area.

Don't forget 94.9 The Surf. And for the lucky few, WNMB 900 AM.

They tried it on 93.9. The station ended up evolving into mainstream CHR, simulcasting on 100.3, and then dropping 93.9.

This is ironic considering that when they first signed on their city of license was Pawley's Island. But so was WDAI's. How is that possible if Pawley's Island isn't that big a place?

What's wrong with 106.5? I heard them last month and thought it sounded presentable, about what you can expect from a corporate-owned radio station in 2007. Not like it was when Dave Solomon was there a few years back, but it's better than nothing.

You are right but they play a slow Urban AC song then Buy You A Drink T-Pain. I think people rather have their Urban AC without the rap. Its done in Charleston, SC and Charlotte, NC.

I sampled them again. Between 7 and 10 at night I only heard one song that wasn't rap. I did try them during Tom Joyner but don't recall any music. After 10 they were all urban AC. I've heard of this concept called "Quiet Storm".
