Cumulus Names New Atlanta Market Manager

Cumulus has named Chris Murray VP/Atlanta Market Manager, with oversight of Q100, Rock 100.5 and 99X. Chris is also the principal owner of WFXM-FM and WXKO-AM in the Macon market.

Former Atlanta Market Manager Gary Lewis has been promoted to Sr VP at Cumulus and has responsibility for a number of Cumulus stations across the U.S.

Wow, that's a lot more sales people that he's going to have to personally go up to and ask how much they are going to write up each day.

Don't make the new GM do that, that's the sales managers jobs. When that's the only way you can make conversation with your sales people, your not making people want to work hard for you.

Wow! That's cold. I always thought it took BOTH programming AND sales to make a station successful? Not to mention a good promotion team, receptionist and traffic and billing departments. Sure consolidation has changed the industry. GET OVER IT! It is here to stay. Either find a way to reverse time (not a good idea...look at history. Time marches on), or work with what we have. Even that will change with time. People don't enjoy change but they can learn to live with it.

And imaging/commercial production.

Wow, are there more than just one other "I love working for Cumulus" out there that cares to comment?

I did get over it, and chose to leave Cumulus' micromanagement style of forced consolidation.

It's really no knock on Lewis really. He is exactly the kind of manager needed to work under those conditions. He should be commended for being able to show up every day and "Get over it," as you say.

When you drive out all your good quality seasoned sales people with solid client relationships and force them to go work across the street to your competition or even get out of the business all together, it makes the jobs even more frustrating for those remaining programming, imaging/production and traffic directors to do their job, or even get a raise at some point, if at all. So they really don't ever "get over it," they just pretend to because of their love for the business. And that's really all that's left. But that is exactly what today's bean counters want you to do. More for less and like it.

And clients, advertising agencies and media buyers just love it when they get another rep that calls on them that have no clue what they are doing. They call right back, right...lol
