Cumulus NASH Country in NWA

The question is will NASH Country wind up here in NWA with one of Cumulus's stations? I am thinking US 94 getting rebranded even though the ratings were terrible.

This is one market where it won't matter. Cumulus will never beat KIX-104 as long as they continue to do business as they do. Given their hard-headed ways about such things, it would be like lipstick on a pig...it's still gonna be a pig...and a loser.

It would depend on how much Cumulus actually "wants" to win in that market and if they know how to be resourceful.

I think they need to do something different with 94.3

Like Bat said, they just can't compete against KIX 104. So what's the use?

NWA kinda needs a News/Talk on the FM. NWA is VERY Conservative, so something with Limbaugh, Savage, and Noory and all that.

I predict that will happen one day. Maybe this year or next. They got to do something.

The demos don't get any younger to move traditional talk to FM. Political talk is a 55+ product at best, and more advertisers are moving away from it.

Cumulus has been more blunt than most about the advertiser issues caused by the more controversial hosts, Limbaugh being one that was singled out for causing revenue losses due to his attacks on Sandra Fluke.

So, it's questionable if taking a conservative talk format to FM would be a good strategy. And if it did happen, Cumulus would try to move away from Clear Channel/Premiere content which would leave the 3rd tier hosts - not as appealing to build a new FM around.

Tell that to KSL. The average age of the KSL listener was almost cut in half when it added an FM stick. KIRO in Seattle saw almost exactly the same results. While it's news rather than talk, WTOP in Washington also saw a dramatic increase in the number of 25-54 listeners when it left AM for FM.

One thing I do agree with you on, however, is that doing talk on FM is a garbage in/garbage out proposal. Cumulus has had little success with simulcasting Washington's WMAL on FM. In order to get the demos you want for talk, just moving it to FM isn't enough. You have to have a compelling product that people want to hear. I'm not sure if KFAY qualifies anymore or not. If it was still the KFAY it was 10 years ago, it would be a compelling product on FM, but I understand the budget cuts Cumulus made four years ago hit KFAY quite hard.
