Cumulus & Pamal & Pensacola?

Freedom 94.5 has a license. Unless they are broadcasting profanity and you are offended by it then just leave Hale alone. If Freedom is so bad that they can't make enough money to pay the bills they might just go away on their own. Don't be a tattle tale and get yourself involved in a mess you don't want. Follow cceng's instructions on how to help WFLF-FM get Freedom off the air or moved so the folks that want to listen to WFLA in Destin can. If you have already done all you can to help Charlie, or you don't want to get involved with the WFLA campaign, then forget about it and listen to something else.
If someone had money in the bank and an intellectual ability to make a 250 watt translator at 450 feet above sea level in Fort Walton profitable... well then they would do it, right? The fact that Freedom has stayed on the 94.5 frequency for so long tells me that they aren't making money and Hale doesn't have the resources to get the engineering work done that would be necessary just to start on an application to the FCC for a new frequency. Unless Freedom is his tax write off, which seems silly.

Here's a possible/interesting solution to this problem: If Hale is in a deep financial hole (seems likely), Clear Channel Panama City could theoretically purchase 1400 AM and the 94.5 translator. Clear Channel certainly has the resources to do the engineering study necessary to move the translator to the best/clearest frequency on the FWB dial. That resource is, obviously, the mind of cceng... I'm sure he's already figured it out but I doubt he's put it on paper. Then Clear Channel could just simulcast WFLF-FM on 1400 and the FM translator for the folks in FWB or even make a FWB/Destin WFLA using CC Panama City and CC Pensacola for add sales. I think this would be relatively cheap and it's a cool idea to boot! I don't know if a 250 watt FM translator at 450 or so feet is capable of making Clear Channel enough money to even consider it... maybe they could buy it, build it, and sell it to Cumulus or Apex or Mark Carter! Another possibility would be that Clear Channel could pay for the engineering work necessary for a broke businessman to move Freedom 94.5 to another frequency... but I would bet that has already been suggested and Hale wanted the cake and he wanted to eat it too. This whole situation smells like a pissing contest between Hale and CC.

Just ideas and theories. I know nothing about this situation. I can listen to WFLF-FM whneever I want over here in P'cola. And I write long posts to boot!

A CC station in the Aloha Trust has a new owner. COL Mexico Beach

Well we've been expecting CC to unload The Beat ever since they flipped it from (was it oldies? I think.) No surprise there really... except, who would want to buy THAT radio station? It's the mangiest dog in all of Panama City FM radio... except for maybe Beach 95.1. And Urban, that format's gone for sure. Maybe I answered my own question... did the owner of Beach 95.1 buy it? Finding out who the new owner is will be the most interesting aspect of 99.3's sale. Maybe K-love? Who would want to buy THAT station... it's just out in the middle of no ware with most of the signal serving fish and four legged critters...

Someone who has has a translator and station in Fort Walton. BTW sale price 135K.

thanks for support Poledo, but I don't think you will find CC buying anything in FWB....just my opinion...if we get enough letters of complaint, the Commission will simply tell Hale to turn it off and find another FM frequency for his translator....translators have their own set of rules and regs and what works for "full service" broadcasters, doesn't always apply to translators and vice versa.

I've gotta hear about this one. Unless it's Hale's tin can I think he paid $20k for the joke he has now.

Ha Ha Ha Ha

Damn stupid Panhandle radio folks. So I guess the Ticket is getting a Mexico Beach satellite?

How oh how can that mess make money? Evergreen, AL, Milton, FL, Defuniak Springs, FWB, and now the 100kw flamethrower (or is it 50k?) in Mexico Beach. None of these stations really cover the right real estate...

Still laughing

CCENG - I disappear from civilization one damn day a year....you picked it. Call ya Thursday, but bet you will be hammin it up. Got the message just now. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse...

You can now own a Panhandle radio station for the price of a nice house. ;D

I almost purchased a class A CP for $150,000 about 3 years ago. Thank heavens I didn't.

You may be able to buy the biggest radio station in Mexico Beach for $135k but I doubt you'll find a nice house there for under $250k.

Let me think... the last house I bought, and kept, cost $14k... in 1999. Today the tax assessor says it's worth more. What happened to depreciation man?

now that it is public record....it is Port St Joe....not Mexico Beach....it is 93.5 not 99.3....it's 14kw not 50kw.....

cceng

Well, kinda same difference. I just looked both stations up on radio-locator and I had the coverage areas of 93.5 and 99.3 reversed. So the signal I was thinking about was the one sold after all. With the sale price of $135k it got me to thinking... what would a 6000 watt class A from Port St Joe, covering Apalachicola to Mexico Beach, be worth? Thinking along the lines of a similar population density to Mark Carter's Seabreeze in the 30A/South Walton market, I would think a Class A from the same site would be worth very close to the same amount. Possibly more because it would be cheaper to operate? How far off am I?

Assuming it was Hale that bought this station, CC may have missed out on a great opportunity to get rid of the 94.5 FWB translator in the sales contract. Or maybe it is in the contract that Hale will move 94.5 to another frequency? CC has a history of dealing with Hale, they did trade him 98.1 in FWB for that little 92.? station in Ocean Springs. If they've just sold him another station there must be a professional working relationship, and Hale would be the person that wants The Patriot 94.5 on the best frequency... not Rob or even necessarily cceng.

Assuming 93.5 was purchased by Hale it could be safe to assume that it will become "The Ticket Panama City." Seeing as College Football is the biggest sport in the area, what team could he possibly get the rights to? FSU and the FL Gators must have strong affiliates in PCB. I assume Bama and Auburn do too. I know that many Georgia residents have second homes down in that area, could it be that the best bet for College Football on an imaginary "The Ticket Panama City" would be the Georgia Bulldogs?

And the last assumption I'll make tonight while I'm making an ass out of myself is.... wouldn't it be safe to bet that Clear Channel will dump urban and put Classic Rock on 99.3, unless the format was sold with 93.5?

Who's holding the note on 93.5?

cceng might want to know, Hale's been airing dead air on 94.5/1.400 all weekend thus far. If that's an FCC violation, he doesn't deserve to have those two stations.

No ID's no nothing.

The Ticket in PCB would do well. He just needs to put the Ticket back on FM for Pensacola. He lost a lot of listeners when he moved the ticket from 98 to 100.3
