Cumulus Rockford “Code Red”

When a Cumulus market is in trouble it gets designated it as being under ‘Code Red’. This is Atlanta's sick thinking that it will get the leadership to motivate the troops…they borrowed the term from the military…where its used as an unofficial order to rough up an uncooperative soldier.

Rockford Cumulus is now under Code Red…meaning the cloud's RVP, will examine every aspect of the sales operation…as if he wasn’t already doing that already. The real intention is to make everyone so uncomfortable that they will start to ‘perform’ again.

Any predictions on who blinks next….Here’s some…

1.Mancow will pull the operation out of it’s tailspin and the money will start flowing in again
2.The cloud company wins employer of the year award
3.The Eagle will hire the best talent in Rockford and put it back on the station
4.WROK will return to it’s dominate ratings position instead of tying WLUV
5.WZOK will actually spend some money and market the station and the good ’ole days return

Anybody care to add their own predictions…..

Code Red? Sounds more like CODE BLUE...I can hear the crash carts rolling in as we speak.

I don't know about code red but some operations (more are this way than are not) are sweat shops. That is how they do business, Cumulus has always done business this way and this is nothing new.

If someone goes to work for a company like this they know what they are getting into. There are still great broadcasters out there, like there have always been.

I love reading posts like this...When employees from the company in question have so much time to post such dramatic comments as, "Cumulus Rockford takes 63 cents out of every dollar in the Rock. Maverick takes the rest. You do the math". Do you really need to think about WHY the ship is going down??? Seriously, "In the Rock"?

ive seen code red and it usually means pink...as in pink slips...gonna be firings very soon IF this is a code red market. Time for all managers to tune up resumes and networkings...

That's a freakin' surprise......Cumulus with their knee jerk reactions and unreasonable business decisions. The management is screwed up on all levels. Although, I think it starts at the corporate level. So typical! Lemme know when you hear something new.

since we're talking a maverick reunion, who do you like better?

James Garner, star of the TV series
or
Mel Gibson, recreated the role for film

Nothing's wrong with Cumulus that better music on Zok and The Eagle could'nt cure. Xxq is solid.

Willy,

Music isn't the issue with these stations (its a sales problem)...for the most part they seem dialed in musically.

Code Red is a Cumulus Revenue Alert telling everyone company-wide that management is cranking up the pressure from above, will let it roll down hill and then watch what happens. Just ask Atlantainrearviewmirror.

I just was reminded in a BIG WAY today about the term, "s**t rolls downhill". That seems quite fitting.

It does roll down hill. Code Red continues as Q1 revenue was down $250K+ from previous year. That equates to $1MM annually. Not only will s**t roll down hill, I would expect a few number of heads to roll. Or maybe they will display the severed heads on sticks out by the intersection of Brendenwood and Alpine. The Dickey version of a Pez dispenser if you will.

Yeah, but doesn't every other company do that as well? Ya think they're going to stand idly by while their properties underperform? I don't think so.

While it may cost the programming department some budgeted item, maybe even a staff member or two, that is only a temporary diversion. The real change that must and will come will come to sales or upper management. (Unless they turn it around right away.)

Then it's just like New Years, out with the old, and in with the new!

Everybody sing Auld Lang Syne.....

It appears, by the secret "due diligence" that Cumulus is spending money on for the Rockford market, that a sale is close at hand. Its about time also...the inept sales management and spineless market management have taken this proud legacy group of stations and flushed them.
