If Clear Channel does indeed fail to hit its debt obligations, what you'll likely see are a lot of struggling AMs and FMs simply go dark..and never return.

Or sold to national religious outlets (i.e. EMF, CSN...)
I bet the Rhode Island Public Radio folks would love to get their hands on one of those CC FM signals in the market.

Good points. These days, it seems the religious folks and the public radio folks are the only ones left with any money for acquisitions.

WRNI moving to 93.3 works for me. Bring it on!! RIPR, in turn, could sell off 1290 and 102.7 to local, community minded owners......(PLEASE DEAR GOD...nobody connected with 990/1320)

As for 920......920 K-Love, anyone?

RI Public Radio on a station licensed to Taunton, MA....how ironic!

That would be funny if RIPR were on a Taunton station. I'm poking around on Radio-locator and it looks to me like there may be evidence of RIPR making a move to 88.7, which is currently Bryant's WJMF. They have a CP to move the tower south, maybe on the Johnston/Scituate border, and boost the signal to a full class A directional, I'm sure to protect 89.1/Norwich and/or 88.9/Boston. This is just speculation, but this has been in the back of my mind for the past several years, even before any evidence of a tower relocation or power boost from 88.7.

With Bryant going division 1 for most athletics and talks of an expanded program on campus to allow a broadcasting degree, I don't think Bryant is going to let the station go.

OK....As long as we're speculating on a rainy Sunday afternoon....

From RIPR's point of view, wouldn't this be a very complicated solution for getting FM coverage state-wide?.

Even if Bryant agreed to part with 87.7 (which I can't see)....the skids would have to be greased with a generous amount of money going Bryant's way, IN ADDITION to replacing the license, which would mean RIPR having to essentialy GIVE Bryant 1290 as part of the bargain.

EVEN if all this happened.....RIPR would STILL have to keep 102.7 in order to maintain state-wide coverage.... not to mention the time and money spent to educate listeners in the central and northern parts of the state where to find RIPR.

If I'm RIPR....better to just save up the pennies....line up the financing....and hope to land one of the CC or Citadel Class B FM's....or possibly even 97.3....if you can pry it loose from the estate of Edmund Dinis.
