CUMULUS SHUT DOWN IN LOUISVILLE?

I heard that 93.9 & 1450 were both shut down today with no plans to return them to the air? Can anyone down there check the frequencies & see if they are both off the air?

I just checked. Dead Air on both. Shame, 93.9 wasn't a bad P5 station. Too repetivive to listen too all day, but not bad for a flip.

Their website is still showing last songs played, but when you try to stream, you hear nothing.

OK, Greg, if you work for Cox, it's time to buy 93.9 and turn it into a rock station like what was discussed on another post. :)

I do wonder if 790 will get the Cincinnati Reds baseball games now, they're having a good season. It would be a shame to not have any Reds' coverage on a year where they are actually in the race.

Wow. That's really something.

How much would it cost to leave them on the air, with just ESPN playing on the AM and commercial-free music on the FM?

Even if they're for sale, I would think it would be easier to sell stations that were actually operating and on the air.

yes they have. Sent everyone home and pulled the plug. Word is they are wanting $3mil for them. Way to much in this market now. It's a shame.

They have been shut down and are for sale. $3 mil gets them.....which is why they are now off the air. Looks like Cumulus is gonna take a bath on this one.

If Cox is like the last place I worked in Corporate radio, the Chief Engineer has full authority to purchase new stations & select a format. I'm sure Greg'll have it done right away. ::)

Wow I had no idea the engineer had that much control in corporate radio. Come on Greg stroke them a check for 3M.

They were definitely worth more money as operating radio stations than they are now.

But I think Cumulus needs to turn in the license to the FCC.

FCC Rule 73.1740 says that:

a) All commercial broadcast stations are required to operate not less than the following minimum hours:

(1) AM and FM stations. Two-thirds of the total hours they are authorized to operate between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. local time and two-thirds of the total hours they are authorized to operate between 6 p.m. and midnight, local time, each day of the week except Sunday.

It further states in FCC Rule 73.1750 - Discontinuance of Operation "The licensee of each station shall notify by letter the FCC in Washington, DC, Attention: Audio Division (radio) or Video Division (television), Media Bureau, of the permanent discontinuance of operation at least two days before operation is discontinued. Immediately after discontinuance of operation, the licensee shall forward the station license and other instruments of authorization to the FCC, Attention: Audio Division (radio) or Video Division (television), Media Bureau, for cancellation. "

Sending the license in to the FCC would allow anyone the right to apply for that license. Legally, they are going to have to put something on those stations, or they are going to have to surrender the licenses.

Wont it cost them more money to be dark then be on the air very odd. Mercury must be in retrograde or somethin lol

I mean remember back in 1998 when salem bought 105.9 the 80s station they played the same 10 songs till salem took over so i guess it was cheaper for them since 105.9 had a buyer and these 2 cumulus stations dont?

Oh well did not like 93.9 they were better as a sports station then classic hits and i am not a sports fan it just seems as sports the served a niche but the classic hits were songs everyone else played.

Heres hopin for someone to make it a hybrid between the fox and fpk with local talent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There will be somethin on there sooner r later. This is a capitalist society we live in and someone will try and make a buck!!!

I won't cost them any money to go silent. But it's like selling a house, it's easier to sell a house that people are living in verses a vacant one. It's easier to sell a radio station that's on the air with a staff verses a dark one.

You always here how bad cc is or cbs is at running radio station but cc is not bad at it look at what they did w 100.5 not doing well so they flipped it n it does well as gen x for now. But i have always heard that cumuls r clueuless as people call it are not good at running radio stations and peeps are pretty adamant about it!!!

More so than most radio companys!!!

But i must say radio one was pretty incompetent when they were here.Look how they rain 105.1 into the ground and simulcast lrs on 104.3 and look how well classic country is doing on 103.9.Radio one had there chance on 104.3 and blew it so who is worse cumuls or radio one hard call

Goin dark without buyers kinda odd cumulus

Do you have to buy both 1450 and 93.9 or can you buy just one?

I would think CC, Mainline or Cox would really like to get 93.9.

Perhaps the stations are already sold, and are going non-commercial.

Here's a quote I saw from John Dickey at Cumulus:

"Those stations were part of the SUSQUEHANNA portfolio, and they were not core stations for us and facilitated an upgrade of one of our INDIANAPOLIS FM's. As a byproduct we're going to be selling them to a non-comm shortly and they will bring them back out in a different direction."

I wonder if K-Love will buy 93.9 and if WJIE will buy 1450.

That is such a shame! Especially 1450. They have such a history going back to the WXVW days. Charlie Jenkins did a great job with 1450 a while back. Would be nice if he could get involved again. ( Does he still work for C.C.?)
And once again, The Cincinnati Reds don't have a radio home in Louisville. They won't go to WKRD 790 because The Bats are on there. 790 sent the Reds to 101.7 a few years back. Then they went to 93.9 when they were sports. Then to 1450 after that. Now this!
Guess I'll have to move to Vine Grove so I can hear them on 101.5. Sad that the Reds are on in E-Town,but not Louisville.
