Cumulus shuts down KPUR 1440 Amarillo

Interesting... I wonder if this is a temporary format. There's no way they would run a format like this long-term when they already have FM stations that do this better. I wonder if Cumulus is planning to sell?

after 2 hours of listening in the last week, i’m slightly more confused then i was before. after simulcasting 95.7 for two weeks last. into, if they’d just left it off, i’d understand that… but they turned it back on and put some amount of effort into it

Most likely KPUR is on the air simply as a proof of performance for prospective purchasers of the station.

Amarillo already has four FMs running a Country format, two of them owned by Cumulus. No need for another Country entrant in the market.

then why not just simulcast the fm like it did in april for 2 weeks? why turn it off. and come back on 2 weeks later with a separate format that took someone’s amount of effort on someone’s part?

“the best songs.. and then some. commercial free” spoken by a bad A.I Voice on 1440 just now.

Perhaps a prospective new owner wants to relaunch the station from an active signal, instead of starting from silence. But who knows.🤔😑

1440 is still on air with automated 90s centric country.

1440 delves pretty deeply. Playing stuff most “commercial/corporate” classic country stations wouldn’t play. It doesn’t seem to be willy nilly because there’s lots of familiars but definately some digging into the vault is going on.

KPUR 95.7 never responded to my email when i just sent them a short paragraph on who i was, how i was listening to 1440 and etc

This is what KPUR can sound like up here. This is a bity better than usual.... i've heard it worse, but ive heard it damn near like a local before. It doesnt always come in this good for this long.... theres a few fades outs here and there but its pretty steady

That’s what 1kw aimed right at you can do.

Are they running any commercials? I still suspect the Country format is a placeholder pending a sale.

I’ve heard zero commercials

I wouldn’t say this was just thrown other… there’s been a modicum of effort here. but i’m also not sharing someone’s devoting an hour or two to things thing every day.
