Cumulus stock

Re: Citadel. I HAD Citadel stock. It became worthless. Zero. Zilch. Not a dime.

You folks are obviously more finance savvy than me, but what happened to the equity owners when Citadel went belly up?

Some, like Forstmann-Little and the Disney investors, walked away with nothing. Most of the creditors simply took the money they were owed in Cumulus stock. Roughly 2/3 of the Citadel deal was paid in Cumulus stock. Cumulus has always preferred to do its deals in stock. The result is a more manageable debt load while the risk is that the shareholders could (and now do) have control of your company. I understand they recently extended Dickey's contract, but I have to think they'd drop him in a heartbeat if Mel Karmazin wanted to get back into radio.

By the time Citadel went belly up, Forstmann had made back more than its investment in the IPO in 2002, and subsequent stock sales that lowered their level of investment. So they were happy to take the tax loss on what was left to offset gains in other investments. This was a calculated move by Forstmann, who could have saved the company if they wanted to.

A better reference would be to ask, "which would you rather have... $10,000 in Cumulus or $10,000 in CBS?" Different investors will give different answers. The speculator will likely see much more upside on CMLS and little upside on CBS. The conservative investor will look at the dividend and underlying value and pick CBS.
Semantics. The point is made. The stock offers little promise. http://news.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/headline_id=b14429 As to speculators, Cumulus doesn't appear to be very attractive. http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=cmls&ql=1
