Cumulus Surrenders License For KXZZ Lake Charles.

After Hurricane Laura knocked Cumulus Media “Sports Radio 1580” KXZZ Lake Charles, LA off the air in late August, the company requested a Special Temporary Authorization (STA) from the Federal Communications Commission to resume broadcasting at reduced power while it worked on rebuilding the station’s facilities. It was the second time in a year KXZZ was silenced by a major hurricane.

Engineers connected the station’s transmitter to a tower further north and resumed operations with 10 watts of power. Then, after the company received a check from its insurance company for the damage from Laura, Cumulus told the FCC it planned to “move forward to restore the facilities” damaged by Laura, a deadly Category 4 hurricane.

The check from the insurance company for the transmitter damage was probably more than the license was worth, plus now... if they own the tower site they can sell it off for a double payday
