Cumulus Takes NASH-FM National

http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/118749/cumulus-takes-nash-fm-national
CUMULUS MEDIA will expand its Country NASH-FM brand to six additional stations TODAY (5/24), relaunching WPKR and WPCK/APPLETON-GREEN BAY, WI; KHKI/DES MOINES; WKAK/ALBANY, GA; KQFC/BOISE and WLXX/LEXINGTON, KY under the NASH-FM brand, with logos, websites and on-air promotions using NASH-FM and “Powered by NASH” language to identify and position themselves.

I am sure the listeners in these markets just love losing live and local for syndicated country music out of NYC. I wonder if they are going to screw with the audio quality in those markets to get the AM on FM sound like they are doing with 94.7.

No word on layoffs in the article but from comments looks like Allaccess is reaching out to those affected.

Is there any confirmation that Nash is a live network and not, simply, a brand being used by multiple similarly formatted stations under the same ownership¡

I checked the websites and streams of the stations that were said in the articles to be getting Nash branding. So far there is no change to the way they sound. The websites show a small Nash logo when refreshed, but this is true for other Cumulus country stations, such as nearby Kicks 105.5. So it is too soon to know what changes may occur with the Nash branding
My guess is that the morning show (still rumored to be hosted by Blair Garner) and some already syndicated shows, such as the overnight program with Kix Brooks will be carried on many or all of the Nash stations. The rest of the day may still be locally produced.

Read the last sentence of the article with regards to staff changes:

Station PDs have confirmed that no staff changes are expected as a result of the move.

Right. But that does not stop some people around here from letting facts get in the way of a good story.

They may even take the Seacrest route on some talent, such as mornings and overnight... bits and pieces that are integrated with the local music log, local imaging and such.

With the technology that exists today, it is pretty easy to create a brand around a local product, incorporating some national content into a local execution.

They updated the original article to indicate no staff changes.

As others have indicated it seems to be branding and I would guess programming. It is not really clear what programs, if any will be direct national syndicated programming.

As an article in RadioInsight stated that the stations were changing to Nash at 12 PM local time, I tuned into WLXX 92.9 in Lexington KY, and have it playing softly.
They are running the same Nash FM jingle heard in New York, but of course with their frequency. They also have a similar sounding one for the weather forecast, which I have not heard here. There is also a liner referring to Nashville, which is not played on New York's Nash.
Except for the (probably recorded) weather forecast, I have not heard a DJ. As the personalities are still listed on the website, I am guessing they may only run jockless over the holiday weekend, to introduce the new branding. I would expect the dj's will return next week.

I predict you will see more national shows added. Attrition will slowly creep in. Easier to sell and package as a generic brand.

Most of the their CHR's carry Perez Live now. (I hear it on three stations in our coverage location)

Expect to see CMT Radio Live with Cody Alan in your market soon. If not there now. More national shows will fill the dayparts as they develop new and exciting content for the brand.

Or Cumulus with its own CHR stations - remember the "I" branding?

It seems odd that after about five months on the air, Nash FM in New York neither carries CMT Radio Live, nor has any DJ's from 7pm- midnight.
I realize that it can take a while to develop a morning show. But how difficult can it be to get something going during evenings?

Old news. Cumulus added that to all of its stations nationwide 5 years ago.

Don't know about nationwide. Just recently added to their station in Pensacola (WXBM).

::) Touché. The point is....they said they anticipated no changes, and we know how that works.

And we all know that when they say no staff changes, that's what they mean right? HA! Typically when they say no changes, they are actually a few months away. I know first hand from the initial Citadel purchase.... If you believe no changes are coming, that's like living in Oklahoma and saying a tornado will never hit your neighborhood. Get ready for the storm
