As reported on the Atlanta boards by Rodney Ho of the Atlanta Journal. So what do you guys see for the future of KRBE? What do you think is on Pat Fant's game plan? Is there new imaging, personalities, or format on the way? Are we staring down the barrel of "Rock 104 KIOL"? Or "FM News Channel 104.1"? Or will the station remain virtually untouched?

Personally, I'd like to see the FM News Channel get a better signal, and really have the chance to flex their muscle on a high powered Houston signal. However, KRBE isn't the one. It would be nothing short of station suicide to kill off KRBE when it's consistently well rated. Unfortunately, with the demise of KIKK, KQUE, and KLOL in the last few years, heritage means absolutely nothing and apparently nothing is safe on the dial these days. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. What are your thoughts?
______________

I wouldnt think their would be any change, if they did change it to rock or news/talk, that would be the last I would listen to that station. I dont care or never did care for talk radio on fm. I would like to see open house party to be added to KRBE though and the mega mix afterwards. I like that, Houseparty plays good music.

To be trite: If it aint broke, don't fix it. If Cumulus makes any changes to KRBE then you know you have idiots running the show. Pat Fant is no idiot so don't look for any obvious up front changes, however there might be behind the scenes changes in sales and marketing. I wouldn't want to be a KRBE sales manager or any KRBE manager for that fact right about now.

I agree with you there. Let's hope those guys at Cumulus are smart enough to leave it alone and let them run the show as they have been over the years. I do see a change in the address of the KRBE studios in the coming years.... and the legal ID to go something like "104.1 KRBE Houston, a Cumulus Media Station". Hopefully those are the only changes to come.

There is already a sign with information to call to lease the building that 104 currently occupies on Westheimer, so the studio venue change may be a lot sooner than you think.

That sign has been up for as long as I've lived in Houston.
______________

I think thats for the building not the space the studio occupies.

Maybe the only change is to put Dallas Cowboys' games onto a FM rated station in Houston, since the Dallas Cowboys moved their broadcasts to KTCK, the Cumulus station up there...

I think the managers are smart enough to not touch what's not broken. (hopefully)

I doubt they would put it on an active format like KRBE... plus, if anything, you'd thinkt hey'd put the Texan's game on.. not the Cowboys.

I can't forsee the Cowboys or Texans on KRBE. The Texans are broadcast on KILT and I seriously doubt that CBS is looking to change that, no matter how bad the Texans are right now. As far as putting the Cowboys on KRBE, I couldn't see that as being anything but a total failure for a station with the stature of KRBE. If the Cowboys are really looking to broadcast their games here in Houston, best bet would be to put them on KFNC. I may be wrong about this, but wasn't the only time Cowboys games were broadcast on FM here in Houston when KLOL did it after the Oilers left for Tennessee back in '97?
______________

That's the only time they were on FM, correct.

The Tex-sucks have a long term deal with KILT/CBS, they aren't going anywhere.

KBME is reportedly interested in carrying the Cowboys, also.

You will see no drastic change or improvements,
just cost cutting, less tight, less enthusiasm
and less involvement. Don't look for any brilliant
marketing, concepts of future development beyond
the normal mindset. Status quo is all they know.
And in all fairness, not a bad bunch of folks to
generally deal with --- just to many
bean counters and corporate suits have to
maintain the image. Not a lot of out of the box
programming/thinkers get to make the calls.

KRBE will still sound like it does now in five years.
Just not as enthusiastic.

Actually, I believe it was KLOL that carried the Oiler games in the final years before they retreated to Tennessee, but from what I remember the games sounded great. On KFNC there might be a signal issue, but if that were the Cowboy's only choice to be on Houston radio I'd bet they would take it. KBME should carry it. It's another big sports franchise with a large Houston following, especially since many of the Cowboy games are now blacked out on TV when they are directly against the Texans Games. They'll show up somewhere.
