Cumulus with the spy cameras in the local stations

This is interesting. Very!

Can you believe that a conglomerate like Cumulus believes that their failures are the result of staff at the local stations not working? They have to install spy cam to watch to make people are working.

They need to look at themselves for the situation they are in.

It must be so fun to work on Pendell and Secor Road these days.

Guys...it's a teleconference. They do them in the real business world all the time. Don't get so paranoid.

If you were working at a mom & pop, pop would insist on attending all sales conferences.

Now if they put cameras in the bathrooms...then you have problems.

BigA- Yes, teleconferences are done all the time in the real world.

This is not your quintessential teleconference in any way shape or form.

A teleconference when there is audio and video exchange between locations. All parties are introduced, there is productive discussion including an exchange of ideas and information.

This scenario is a camera coming on during the morning meeting. You have no idea who is on the other end. There are no introductions, just the conference room phone ringing if something is said that someone on the other end of the camera didn’t like. Then the GM offers correction. There is no exchange of anything.

This is very contrary to a people oriented business where communication and face to face discussion is crucial and the ability to think on your feet paramount.

I don’t think staff is paranoid.

Staff has been subject to salary cuts, furloughs, most of the tools and support staff to help them be successful has been taken away. Times are tight, they get it. They see on a daily basis just how little faith the corporate office has in its local management and that trickle down desperation makes it tougher for them to perform.

The realization that you have been stripped of the very skills that got you hired in the first place is probably the most difficult for them to digest.

I seriously wonder why the suits at cume-u-less put up with the poor performance and ratings at penndel road. The woof is a loser and it's simulcast on 3 stations. Not sure where mess 97 is; PDH morning show is a train wreck. Hmmm...guess the inmates are running the asylum. As tower said they have stripped the talent to where I wonder why the folks stay, cutting part timers back to min wage...????

Where are you getting this story? From a blog? Or has it actually happened to you?

Two quick comments: If you've ever worked for Cumulus, you know this isn't a far fetched rumor. Their top down management, corporate arrogance and non-people orientation are legendary and true. You can bet the only thing stopping them from putting cameras in the bathrooms is the fear of criminal prosecution. There is nothing these monsters wouldn't do to take a dollar from an employee and put it in Lew's pocket.

This is not a rumor, it isn't blog info. It is what it is. It is a small radio world out there, people talk. Word gets around.

Some of them would come on here and verify this information themselves, but some are scared of being outted, and others can’t because this web site is blocked at a lot of their stations.

Corporate has every right to run their stations the way they wish. They can’t be faulted for that. In their current state of desperation, you can even understand some of this wacky stuff coming down the pipe. But, if they think this set-up won points, it didn’t. People deserve better from one another. Employers owe their employees a little more.

On another note, if the one format fits all approach coming from corporate doesn’t work, why would they think the one sales approach fits all would? This I don’t know the answer

FYI- The link the story has changed. I posted the new link below so those who peruse this page can better understand this discussion.
