Current Meaning of "AMC" Discovered

AMC has succeeded beyond its wildest dreams. The Walking Dead is not only superb, it shows up SyFy for the low rent schlock channel it is. C'mon, this is a show SyFy should have owned, but instead they go for the cheap Grade Z stuff that no one watches.
Breaking Bad is great too.

AMC ,like A&E ,MTV ,BET ,SyFy needed to evolve due to changes in society. And I like The Walking Dead & Breakout Kings too.

I agree with most of the above comments. But infomericals throughout most mornings? Is this really working? Does the income produced from these offset ratings? Just curious. If it does, then I guess more power to them, but what about their overall image?

Somehow I doubt the amad Men fans care some little watched hours are given over to paid programs.

they were better before they aired commercials, chasing dollars has turned them into just another cable channel, NOT a Classic MOVIE channel. they lost me, TCM is much better.

Seeing as how part of the downfall of AMC was Turner revoking the rights to classic MGM, Warner Brothers, and RKO films for the reason of starting it's own classic movie channel (TCM), I guess this doesn't surprise me.

I'm actually quite surprised that the loss of MGM, Warner Brothers, RKO, and Fox films didn't cause the format flip earlier. They were lost in 1994, and the network didn't shift focus until 8 years later.

not that i really give a sh*! but, how many can they lose like me?

Seeing as how the network has never done better, my bet is every last one of you. I don't mean to be insulting, it's just that the bottom line speaks the loudest. Every company must make money, and AMC makes more money now than it did back then. They stepped up as the "poor man's HBO" and it's worked out VERY VERY well for them. You may not like them, but for every person like you they lost, they probably gained somewhere between 10 and 100 new viewers.

If you don't care, why did you respond to this topic and why the rude language (with self-censorship)?

In a word: plenty.
Whatever... i can tell you AMC is losing a cable system when i am, due to a 50% price increase they are trying to shake them down on. hope they can afford to lose them to.

In the end, because their product is in high demand, they'll come to terms. This only proves my point. They wouldn't be able to ask for, and in most cases, get these huge increases if it weren't for the shift in programming.

the local cable system took a survey a few months ago before all this, and found NO ONE WAS WATCHING AMC OR KNEW WHAT IT WAS!

And you've seen all the responses to know "no one" knew of them, we can assume.
