Current Network

I put the TV on and while finding something to watch I came upon a new network called "Current" This channel is now in the place News International (I think that was the name of it) was once it left the air. Currently Time Warner is still calling the channel that "Current" is now on News International on digital cable with no data for it. So all I want to know is what the channel is about and its purpose of what they are going to air in the future. thanks

It's already been covered earlier in this forum, but "Current" is Al Gore's new information channel that features features in bite-sized portions -- all lasting only a few minutes -- and is open to contributions from its viewers.

The channel replaced Newsworld International earlier this month.

If you watch and pay attention for 7 or 8 minutes, they explain the concept. It's a good channel, and contrary to peoples opinion's on this board -- no (left-wing) news. Just the mini-documentaries.

One complaint: they repeat certain ones too much. Like the rat faced married rich couple trying to live under a budget. They must show it a couple of times a day.

You might want try rebooting your cable box. I have Time Warner too, and I get full schedulte information. It also lists the correct channel name and had the logo. Some of TW's digital boxes are a little funny about updating things, every once in awhile, the box just needs to be rebooted

The so called "mini-documentaries" do not have enough time to really go in depth.
Its really dumbed down content for people with short attention spans.
Is the channel better than what it replaced?
Hell no.
The big question is: Is anyone watching?
I hope the answer is no.
Then again, all sorts of morons watch the Fox News Channel with its overt political blather.
______________

Sounds like USA TODAY meets Funniest Home Vidios. Compelling TV I'd say.

I've watched Current too, and...

I watched Current for the first time last night, and I gotta say I'm impressed.

The presentation isn't like anything I've ever seen before. Bringing you news and features in a hippish 'mini-documentary' style works, and keeping these segments short makes what they're talking about that much more memorable. A good mix of international stories. The Current "flashbacks" of old CBS News footage are a nice blast from the past (I also get a kick out of them using the old 'CBS Special Presentation' bumps from the 1980s).

The viewer contributed-content, or "VC-Squared" I saw wasn't half bad. I imagined a bunch of low-budget looking mess, but everything I saw last night was pretty slick. Nothing was stodgy or staid like the news channels, neither was anything over-hyped like on E! or other entertainment channels.

If Current's mission was to become sort of an open-source news, features, and entertainment channel, I'd say they're well on their way.

Much to the chagrin of toby, I think this outlet will stick around for a while.
______________

I hope it does well...

I disagree, I hope it does well. I really enjoyed what I saw.

Okay, that was a little too close to being non-objective. Personal attacks are not going to win you points with the moderator.

Now, for my opinion: I can't seem to get "into" Current. Maybe it's a little too loose-leaf for me, I don't know. But it certainly is an interesting experiment, it doesn't look at all like other channels, and I have to applaud Gore and his investors for trying something new.
______________
