Currently the two biggest American rock bands

Some would argue, including the critics at Rolling Stone, that Wilco and My Morning Jacket are becoming the two biggest American rock bands today. So with that, why doesn't rock radio play them????

Like I said over and over, its the cigar smoking, pompous suits that will not promote rock. They are happy with the spend thrift audiance that Rap and Hip Hop breed. The new stuff by Priest, Crue, Disturbed, SOD hardly receives any airplay. There is so much new rock coming out but you wont hear it as long as the same big shots are in charge. Today at 2:30PM 94.5/95.7/96.5/98.1/98.9/100.3/102.1/103.9/105.3,106.1 and 107.9 were playing some sort of urban product, all us rockers had was 93.3 for some sort of safe, chicken, new rock, with a heap of talk.

The only place you'll hear Wilco and My Morning Jacket is 88.5 WXPN; they play both pretty regularly. I wouldn't call them rock radio, though.

I guess the two biggest "commercially safe" rock bands right now are the Foo Fighters and Nickelback. It kind of reminds me when 80's hair metal came out then quickly became saturated, tired, and similar sounding, then died. If the current rock stations, I mean station, doesn't add some of these newer acts rock will become a lost format.

I dont understand these executives. They are out of touch. Most people I meet in public that are my age (thirty something) or in their twenties listen to Phish, Wilco, My Morning Jacket, Son Volt, White Stripes and other like minded bands. Nobody I know listens to mainstream radio stations. It's like my circle of friends and aquaintances and I live in a different world. Furthermore when I go to Philly or vacation in Austin the people I meet are the same if not even more obscure. Once again people are out of touch!

I forgot to mention Early Man, Deride, Hawthorne Heights, God Forbid, Shinedown, Tool, Drowning Pool, Through the eyes of the Dead, Caesars, Thornley, Depeche Mode, Living Things, which is just touching the surface. All this great Rock is being ignored on the Philly FM band. All they want to do is Rap, heard one cut, heard them all, same deal, just change the name of the artist, I mean rapper.

Im open minded enough to give Judas Priest a listen but not Motley Crue. Actually, the dinosaur/caveman station known as WZZO in the LV probably plays Motley Crue.

How can you even suggest that either of those bands are two of "America's biggest rock bands"? Ive seen My Morning jacket and they were indeed pretty impressive an d Ive seen Wilkco, ...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...........But there's a difference in being critic's darlings (what the two bands youve offered enjoy) and two of "America's biggest rock bands"...........To quote what the lead singer of the Jayhawks told me years ago "being a critics darling doesnt pay the rent"

Truer words have never been spoken.
