Curtis Media Group

> Run! Run like Hell!

I disagree with this posters' opinion of Curtis Media Group.

I'm a PD with the company in Raleigh, and work closely with the engineers and management.

People who are smart and work hard will thrive at CMG. We have management
that strives for a quality product and employees with a good work ethic. If you have those qualities, you will be a valued employee. Isn't that the way it should be!

If you want to work for a privately owned company, with the tools you need to excel, I would reccommend you apply for any position you are qualified for.

I've been with CMG for five years. Good luck!

I worked in the engineering department there for three years. If I were you, I wouldn't.

If Curtis Media strives for a quality product, why then the annoying HUM behind Rush Limbaugh on WPTF for months and months..... Hard to tell what's more annoying, the HUM or the HOST.
Edited by radio-outsider on 09/13/05 02:51 AM.

Wow...are there any radio companies that are decent to work for? Mom and pops are too cheap, and big companies have a Nazi-type attitude, according to a lot of R-I posters...

Geez, ya gotta work yer arse off (often for free) in order to succeed in radio...ya gotta deal with bean-counting management Any company that isn't like that isn't good...sorry!
______________

"Strives" for a quality product.
If things were "perfect" we wouldn't need an engineer, would we?
I'll pass that annoying "hum" issue on to an engineer.
Thanks

I cant comment on the CMG properties or engineering department having not worked for CMG. But I hear things...

I do know that the CC Raleigh engineering department is among the best you'll find.
______________

Bill, while you're at it please let them know that 96 rock needs more compression and AGC. 96 should strive to sound as good as RDU (sonically).
______________

QDR needs the same.

Ironically the only Curtis station that sounds worth anything is Y102. They sound pretty dang good.
______________

1. What's the difference between compression and AGC? They basically describe the same thing, which isn't 96 Rock's main sound issue.

That issue is poor quality source material--song files that sound like old Napster downloads. In fact, I can assure you that some of them are exactly that! Someone needs to re-dub approximately 95% of that station's library.

2. CMG is a locally-owned company with far closer ties to the community than any of the CC stations here. That alone speaks volumes. As far as working for them, it obviously depends on the position you're interested. Assuming it's engineering, my impression is that A: The company's pretty cheap when it comes to physical plant and infrastructure upgrade, and B: If you're any good, they need you badly! Hopefully whoever interviews you will understand these issues.

One other factor: Phil Zachary. Love him or hate him, he is the omnipresent personality at any station he manages. Get to know him (or about him) before you decide.

Capitol. Not that I know, personally, but I've seen it many times on this board.

Thanks Scott. We're the little Class A that tries harder.

Thanks........

Thanks to all who have posted here! Saw the ad, considered the area, investigating the possibilities. I know the grass isn't always greener but hey, I listen to any good offer for a job. BTW, it is for the engineering position...

Where are you now? The Raleigh-Durham area is wonderful! Great economy, solid growth (arguably too fast)...lots of traffic. But still a great area. Only 2 hours to the ocean, 3 to Myrtle Beach.
______________

Actually, during my many visits to the area, I've noticed the grass really is greener there!

The sky's bluer, and the people are better looking, too.

No, I'm not kidding.
