WRVA-FM, IMHO, is classic rock lite. That's the thing... classic hits can be divided into two categories; CR lite and Pop Hits (ne Oldies), with crossover.
FM classic hits, depending on market, can still skew pre-63. WMJI/Cleveland, still a revenue powerhouse (and Top 3 25-54 PPM) will go as "old" as '62, yet play Queen, Frampton, Allmans, and Springsteen (made big in the midwest by sister station WMMS). All depends on market.
As for "traditional" oldies (56-79), there's many stations out there. Some on FM. With PPM being oldies friendly you're seeing more stations flipping to...whatever you want to call it. Oldies... Classic hits. Whatever.
Here in Akron, at legendary WAKR (1940 sign on) we're 56-74. But only play 56-63 once per hour. Maybe twice if a backtimer is needed to top or bottom news as the earlier songs are short. Core is 64-68 titles.
AM Oldies has strength with it's P1s and P2s as well. We were instrumental in a sellout for "The Golden Boys" with Frankie Avalon, Fabian and Bobby Rydell. We're now presenting The Ultimate Doo Wop Show with Dion, Shirelles and Flamingos. Shows are selling out. Boomers have expendable cash.
