Curtis Sliwa co-hosting a show with Anthony Weiner

This pairing will air on Saturdays from 2-4 PM in what was previously a solo Sliwa show.
It is titled “The Left vs The Right” - a similar concept to the Sunday afternoon show hosted by Curtis and Chris Hahn.

If WABC's goal is to influence listeners against liberals they may be on the right track. Weiner is creepy and Chris Hahn is obnoxious. Back in the day, Alan Colmes and Lynn Samuels were fun to listen to. Can't WABC find any entertaining liberal hosts? Perhaps not.

With all due respect to Mr. Cats, whose ownership and operation of WABC I applaud, I would recommend he re-think this hiring.

This isn’t the same as hiring a post-incarceration Craig Carton, whose felonies involved scams and stemmed from his gambling addiction. Or a G. Gordon Liddy, whose crimes were political in nature. Or a Bernard Kerik who’s crimes were ethical crimes despite his presidential pardon.

Weiner engaged in sexual chatting with a minor and pleaded guilty to sending the minor obscene material. He also previously sent an indecent photo of himself to a sexting partner that included his infant son.

The crime is more heinous. It is (or it should be) less forgivable in the eyes of the public. I wouldn’t listen to “Curtis & Carlos” no matter how much I like Curtis Sliwa as a host. I’m surprised, honestly, Curtis would be okay with this pairing considering how much effort he and his “battalion of urban commandos” have put into Cyber Angels, which works to keep kids safe from online predators.

I’d I were an advertiser (I’m not) I’m telling my account executive not to run my spots during that show, if not pulling them from the station as a whole. I can’t imagine advertisers would want to buy Andrew Weiner live reads.

After paying his debt to society, Anthony Weiner has a right to earn a living. He was certainly guilty of a heinous crime that destroyed his entire life. Any of us can choose not to listen to the show for whatever reason. I am not a fan of political talk radio and will not listen in any event.

I agree. To go further, these guys do not care about the age of consent which is not uncommon in this industry. If they did he would not have been hired. They were fully aware of the situation prior to the hire obviously.

Disgusting.

There are plenty of other things he can do.

He paid is debt but does he still not believe in an age of consent? Someone should ask him that. People can pay their debt and still hold the same belief system that got them there in the first place.

I'm not denying Weiner's chance to earn a living. I'm questioning the business sense of hiring him in such a public position.

If Weiner took a job on the assembly line at the local widget factory, no one would care. It's not public-facing. The factory's owner isn't likely to face a backlash either from the public or from business relationships.

A radio host is public facing and part of how they (and the station) make(s) money is the host's interactions and relationships with advertising clients. There's no way I'd be paying WABC for a commercial that begins with "Hi, this is Anthony Weiner. Let me tell you about the dinner I had last night at ____." I wouldn't be alone. That cuts out potential revenue in ways not possible with hosts who aren't listed on a sex offender registry.
