Curtis Sliwa show

I can't be the only one who wants to stick a hot poker in my eye 30 seconds after listening to this, can I? More importantly to PDs, when are these yutzes going to learn that the rest of the country hates New York. Memo to ABCRN: No one west of the Hudson river cares that Curtis is broadcasting from the "17th floor of Madison Square Garden". No-freaking-body.

I'm in Boston where they bill him as live and local....which he is not. But I dig him; his bravado and ramble ons are great radio theater. I listen to him like I listen to a lot of shows (eg Savage)--not really for the content, more for the voice/personality.

Sliwa was actually sorta "live and local" for Boston's WTKK for a while - he was doing a show just for them in that time slot until the syndication kicked in.

OK, so he was probably still doing it from midtown Manhattan. That's why I said "sorta". :D

The dee's, dem's and dose', don't play as well west of the Hudson. Sliwa is not Stern, and Stern didn't sound like he was fresh out of Canarsie.

They'll see.

I haven't heard the new show yet, but I've always thought Sliwa was a good guy even though I always agreed more with Kuby. Ultimatly the sad thing is that WABC is all syndicated(Scarborough doesn't count really does he?) after getting rid of Kuby, Gambling, and Grant resulting in no local talk. The station's former PD must be smiling somewhere right now.

Scarborough's show will eventually be syndicated within the Citadel realm...KABC in Los Angeles is expected to pick it up in a month or two, if I remember right. I don't know where it lands in places like Chicago (WLS), Detroit (WJR), DFW (WBAP) or San Francisco (presumably KSFO).

Let's see: You make all the hosts sound the same and then you have them make up as much of the schedule on many different stations as possible so THEY all sound the same.

Homogenization is not a virute. It's a disgrace.

Too bad the programmers responsible for this weren't discouraged and/or drummed out of this business before they ever had a chance to spread their cancerous theories and agendas.

Sliwa, last I checked, is already on KABC. For six hours a day.

ABCRN is hawking the show to affiliates, packaging him up with Levin from what I've been told. I'm sure enough PDs will be steamrolled or buy in to whatever nonsense they're pitched. I remember hearing someone telling me a TRN rep was always talking about Jerry Doyle's 12 hour a week TSL or something like that. Hmmm...

Sliwa might be a good guy and he may have been part of a successful NYC morning show, but that doesn't mean he can play anywhere.

Oddly the whole idea of syndicating Sliwa reeks of a Boyce decision, much like when he decided to syndicate both Levin and Imus. Levin did prove successful although he is not often heard live on some of his bigger stations but still Boyce was able to put Levin out there, all rumors of "cramming" are not included. Imus, well the book is still out on that one.

Good point. Too many hosts who are NYC-centric are often out of touch with the rest of the country as people living up and down the I-95 corridor between Boston and D.C. think THEY are the center of the universe. Except for a few other cities and states everyone else gets shafted. Referring back to you original post at the top, I don't think we need another NYC-based host.

I notice Boyce never posts here anymore.
Maybe Hannity's excessive pay raise cost Boyce his job. I know to pay for it all cut a producer or two.

I guess he got tired of getting hassled so much and couldn't take the heat for the "formula" programming he created.

Of course programs aren't "crammed." Anyone wanting Hannity will naturally want Levin. No pressure there. It's just a "coincidence" that so many stations sound like WABC. Many are merely satellite or translator stations with morning show inserts.
