Radio and Records is reporting that Curtis Media Group has purchased the former Aisling Broadcasting cluster in Boone for $2.33 million. The cluster includes WATA-AM/Boone, WECR-AM/Newland, WECR-FM/Beech Mountain, WMMY-FM/Jefferson, WXIT-AM/Blowing Rock and WZJS-FM/Banner Elk. Curtis is using the company name High Country Adventures LLC for the purchase.

When does Don take over the stations? And do you think he will spin any of them off? Inquiring minds want to know...

When Aisling bought these several years ago, they wanted to move the WECR (AM 1130, Newland) studios to Boone and simulcast WATA -- my mind's foggy on the simulcast, but I'm sure on the studio move. The Newlanders fought this and kept their hometown station. I'm sure Jim Greene (main announcer with a loyal following in Newland) is rallying the troops again to head off this possbility. I wish and pray for him the best.
As a side note, I also kind of wish that either WECR-AM would revert to its original WJTP calls OR 102.3 would change calls from WECR to help distinguish the two stations.

Eric
