Cutbacks at Atlanta Cox Radio

Sources tell me about 16 people were cut today from Cox Radio Atlanta, including WSB-AM repoter Jeff Dantre, WSB-AM's assistant news director Kerry Browning and Kiss news gal Marjorie Coley. Also heard The River's PD Chris Miller and night jock Stacy D at Kiss 104.1 are out. The announcements were made at 1:30 p.m. EST today.

Kerry has been at SB for at least three decades. He is a super nice guy, the pride of Jackson, Ga. Jeff Dantre is a solid reporter who deserves a far better fate. I'm glad I no longer work in radio!

Kerry Browning seemed like such an integral part of WSB - Dantre too! My guess is they made too much money.....the bean counters noticed. I wonder who the other lucky winners of pink slips just in time for the holidays were?
All of their salaries probably didn't add up to what the remaining Cox sister/hag donated to help elect Obama president - who, incidentally, will help further rob her of revenue with the Fairness Doctrine and overwhelming corporate tax increases.......

(ducking for cover)

What a shame. Dantre and Browning were class acts. Miller is a super nice guy. I am so sorry to see them go.

And Belinda stays. Well shut mah mouth!

Since the cut the PD of the River loose, one has to ask what is going to happen, given the monster ratings.

Who will be the PD - will Paul Cilliano, B98.5's PD have double duty?

Who will take over the midday shift - Kelly McCoy (under an alias)?

Will Kate McCarthy be given the boot, with the station running automated outside of mornings?

After the first PPM numbers come out, will a format flip be eminent if the numbers stink?

So many questions...

Sadly...this is a bad time for those who lost their jobs today, as they are having to face the bad economy. I wish them luck finding work.

On a side note...I wonder if Cox Radio will go through with privatization now, speeding up the process due to the economy?

Of all of the bonehead moves!? Let's punish success, shall we? Let's blame the economy and see how few people we can actually pay to do multiple jobs.

It's official: Radio conglomerates have a death wish.

I hope all of the people who lost their jobs today will be able to look back in a few months with better jobs and think - this was the best thing that ever happened to me.

What's next!?! Trip West gone and Seacrest in? Cox makes cuts today, who next tomorrow?!

Somebody been rubbin' the magic LFM crystal ball?.....

;)

and where's Boortz now? Whenever someone loses their job to economics or can't find work, he always rants about this person being properly trained and doing more to make one's self valuable. Well Neal, What about these folks who have worked in Radio for so many years and are quite valuable at what they do? It must be nice to sit in the catbird seat and forget all about the days when you were making squat. It would seem that the only ones surviving these days are Bean Counters and some Management (not PD's). Certainly the air talent is disposable and just a liability. Sometimes I wonder about that greeter job at Walmart.......and where we all are heading.

Cox is making cuts in all their businesses. I have friends that work at Cox Communications and Manheim and they just showed lots of folks the door.

<sarcasm> Maybe this is Anne Cox Chambers' way of blaming inevitable CXR cutbacks on the Bush administration and the GOP and not Obama...</sarcasm>

If the Fairness Doctrine goes through, watch for WSB to get the Braves back, "retire" Boortz, neuter Clark Howard (more travel, less consumer affairs--maybe this is what it will take for Clark to run for mayor), and fill the rest of the sked with Walter Reeves et al.

Or maybe Atlanta could actually have an "all news" station... imagine 24 hours of the Scott Slade morning show... errrr -- nevermind.

??? You'd think management would be wary of tampering with a winning formula. WSB is a great radio station.

Cox won't touch WSB unless the gummint sics the Fairness(sic) Doctrine on them.
