cutbacks

At least two I know in programming cut in the last month, one had been there for years. Clear Channel is coming down hard in all major markets as they
continue to restructure. Bonneville made some cuts at their Seattle operation in the past few weeks as well. Seems to be that time of year cowboys.

Firings are the radio industry's way of saying "Hi". Which is why I prefer watching it all fall apart from the sidelines than directly underneath.

At the end of Mike Gastineau's show on Thursday, he mentioned that his longtime producer Terry Reid received his pink slip earlier that day. Terry had been with KJR since 1989 and was a huge behind the scenes contributor to the show. I guess seniority just means that you're more vulnerable because your paycheck is bigger than a newbie's would be.

That's been the C/C mode of operation for years. Notice how you always read "so-and-so is now regional manager for x, y, z markets" (or other promotions) but never read about what happened to the person who USED to have that job? In many cases they simply became "too expensive" and the talent that had been grooming on the sidelines was called into service.

I often wonder if Business Administration ethics classes are now an ELECTIVE?

I also heard that on the Gasman's show on Thursday, but I thought he said "Terry Ryan"....but my old ears may have heard wrong. If Reid was with KJR since '89 then, yes, obviously he was earning WAY too much money and had hit a glass ceiling and CC deemed him expendable. Same thing happened with me. But, Terry---listen up----there ARE other things to do which can earn you more money and much better schedules and provide a better work/life balance! Forget about radio, man, that's a dead end.
