Cuts at Clear Channel Salisbury

Word has it that Clear Channel Salisbury has let go Brian Cleary, Operations Manager for the 8 stations. Brian was also afternoon drive personality for Froggy 99.9.Based on the memo our from San Antonio, it's probably money related. They already have a freeze on additional spending, except those things needed to meet FCC regs. The deal to sell these stations fell through last spring. I suppose more voicetracking from the Sales people. Considering their 3 big signals, Froggy, Q-105 and 96 Rock were up, you'd think they'd be happy with Cleary. The Class A's were down, but diary placement can kill the lower power signals.WJDY with it's Adult Standards format was down, and 960am 5kw day and night again didn't show. Last fall the lost or let go several employees, how long before they are voice tracking everything from out of town? CC Salisbury has become a bigger swing door that Great Scott, and that's saying something.

CC has certainly done its part to destroy radio in Salisbury. True, there are probably too many stations for a market that size in today's economy. But they can't even afford one OM for that many stations?

The unrealistic prices paid for these stations is coming back to haunt those suits that thought they knew about investing. You need more knowledge about the actual product you are buying. Buying a radio station is not like buying an oil well.

I must say that I am very unhappy with Clear Channel radio and them letting Brian go that is so not cool. He should have been the last DJ left go from there. I can so think of a couple other people that they could have cut before him. HE WILL BE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the cuts contimue everywhere. First, wholesale cuts by CC, now CBS. With so many options for advertisers these days, radio is finding it difficult to maintain the cash flow needed to pay the loans they took out for the over-priced stations and at the same time please stockholders.

The sad result is, a lot of good radio people are out due to radio "investors" who got involved in a business they basically knew nothing about.

First off, Brian Cleary was not let go because of a Clear Channel cut. He was FIRED and it was very well deserved. It was long coming. And, I hear he's already been replaced.
