CW 34 going digital

In case anyone is interested, according to the clarion ledger WRBJ 34 should be digital this weekend. The last I checked the analog is down. I haven't seen anything digital on channel 34 yet, but since its in Magee its always been a problem picking up because its off the back side of the outside antenna. Haven't seen anything with rabbit ears yet either, which usually work fine for WRBJ at my location.

for what its worth, even though they aren't required to go digital yet, I wish WXMS/WBMS would go digital, and possibly get a little more coverage. Since they are already on 2 channels, they could convert one to digital and leave the other analog for a while. WXMS 27 is clearer that 10 where I live.

It just came on the air, sometime friday night Jan 26. 720p No subchannels. Much better signal than the old analog at my location. Even with the antenna pointed the wrong way. Lip sync problem. Run your auto-program or add-delete on your TV

FYI the transmitter for CW34 is in Smith County near Burns. I can get CW34 on my amplified Rabbit Ears here in Forest along with MPB Meridian (WMAW). I wish I had an outside Antenna for picking up Either the rest of the stations in Jackson or Meridian

from my experience rabbit ears and those funny looking little box type antennas they are selling just don't get anything worth diddly squat over 20 miles away. With a traditional outside antenna it works better but it has to be pointed in the right direction or you will have drop offs. If you live near the transmitter indoor antennas work fine, especially if you are between stations because you don't have to go outside and turn the antenna. I can actually pick up WRBJ better with rabbit ears than with the outside antenna before and after digital because the transmitter being in the opposite direction. I could barely pick up 34 in analog, now its crystal clear with only a few drop offs with the outside antenna, and perfect on the indoor antenna in the other room. I think there are going to be a lot of upset people (mainly old folks) out in the sticks when they realize they can't get "Wheel of Fortune" and "Price is Right" on their 1978 Zenith with the $5 rabbit ears. I have relatives who are convinced that free TV is going off the air and they will have to get cable.

Since you've got a TV thread started I figured I throw out a question. Has WXXV in Biloxi signed off their analog signal early? I'm asking because it seems that WBPG in Mobile has upped their digital power on channel 25 to the point that it is almost as strong as the other Mobile digitals. WALA and WEIQ are the only Mobile digitals weaker now.

As with all things radio, it's all about height, height, height.

All I've got is a cheapo amplified set-top box, and I'm in a fringe area between the Greenwood and Columbus/Tupelo markets.

Sitting in the room with the TV, in digital I can get only MPB from Oxford sporadically. WTVA and the two local translators, plus MPB in analog were all various degrees of 'weak'.

After having some new cables run for the satellite dish I was able to use a spare cable to relocate the same cheapo antenna to the attic. Now I get fairly steady digital from MPB Oxford, WTVA (Tupelo) and WABG (Greenwood), and the above analog plus WCBI (Columbus), MPB (Miss. State) and WABG in fuzzyvision.

After the analog shutdown (if it happens as scheduled) it'll be interested to see who is left with what...

First CW 34 Jackson had Lip sync problem but picture was fine even with Indoor rabbit ears ( living Jackson Downtown). I was able to get signal strength about 70%. But now for the last few days Picture freeze all the time I even tried Terk amplified Indoor antenna. I am able to get signal stregth about 80% but picture freeze all the time. Other digital channels work fine even at signal strength of 30% (dtv converter box). Please post your experience if you are getting this problem!
