CW and It's Digital Problems Thursday Feb 1st

For those who enjoy watching Smallville and missed tonight's episode, you really didn't miss that much because a good 25 minutes of the show experienced digital problems making the ending impossible to either watch of hear. One can't blame the problem on just one show because Supernatural had the same tech glitches. I wonder if CW plans to re-air these programs on a different night?

At least you get the CW. The Palm Springs CW went dark 8 days ago. After two days of "snow", KCWQ has been on test pattern for a week now. They were battling with TimeWarnerCable and had no cable presence since launching, so it was rabbit-ear time.

And of course, they don't stream "Smallville" on the website, so I have to get tapes from family in Phoenix.

Arggh.

Are you sure this was a CW problem and not your local station's problem?
I do believe it was a CW problem because not only didn't it impact Smallville and Supernatural, but also the national and local commercials. I am no tech person but the pixels were scrambled and the picture would stop, start, and the audio would go silent.
Smallville started out fine for the first 1/2 hour then everything went to hell in a hand basket. I turned off Supernatural after the first five minutes because the same problem was occurring.

Was this on your local digital channel over-the-air or on basic cable, too?

I'd suspect that it was a local problem, because I had no problems with pixellation, break-ups, freezes, or audio dropouts on Thursday's "Smallville" on the station that carries it here in Dallas. The HD feed was fine here.

It's very possible you are right. Our CW affiliate was recently purchased by Clear Channel, who owns another TV station in the city where I live. And that other station's master control was once located in another city so that the company could save money. That makes me believe that cutting costs is more important that hiring local people who know what they are doing. Anyways I missed a good portion of the program. Of course there will be repeats I'm sure in a few weeks so hopefully I can see this episode again.

I'd say if the local spots are being affected, it is probably not a national issue.
