CW Sundays

How expensive is it to run a 2 hour movie block compared to scripted shows and reality shows? I mean, the big 3 networks used to have Saturday and Sunday night movies weekly that did well, why does it not seem to be working for the CW?

What movies could possibly be shown that haven't been burnt to a crisp all ready on basic cable? Aired movies over the networks used to be an event before the proliferation of cable/satellite. Now it's just time filler.

CW Sundays...The Latest News

From Broadcasting & Cable (dated 13 May 2009):

MGM Prime-Time Sunday Movie Package Secures 65% Clearance

MGM’s Prime-Time Sunday movie package for the affiliates of the CW has cleared 65% of the U.S. in less than 10 days.

CW stations owned by Tribune Broadcasting Company, Sunbeam TV Corp., Capitol Broadcasting Company, Gray Television Inc., Freedom Communication, Inc., and the CW Plus station group have all secured the package.

So much for the affiliates doing their own thing.

This also answers my question regarding the CW Plus.

This TV is doing great for a digital subchannel. Then this weekend they did air Scream Blacula Scream. I do like that they are airing low budget horror flicks. Maybe that the CW couldn't compete with the Big Four networks.

I'd like to see them run Buffy (8PM) then Angel (9PM) on Sunday nights. It's not so much that Buffy/Angel fans can watch these shows again but that they'd be able to watch them in HD as 1) Their affiliate may not have been HD at the time or 2) they didn't have an HDTV back in the day. And with Dollhouse being picked up (if the reports I've read are true) I can imagine the CW getting some new fans who may want more "Whedon" to check out his earlier works.
