CW To Be Sold? Nexstar Among The Suitors.

Well minor league hockey on the CW would get more viewers than the WNBA.
Not sure about that, but it'll probably get more viewers than some of the scripted programming they air today (considering several shows have had such a small audience that they effectively get a 0.0 share).

Seeing as how the network is losing $100 million per year right now, they have nowhere to go but up!

Kansas City has 4 7am hour newscasts btw.

WDAF FOX 4
KCTV 5 on KSMO-TV
KMBC 9 on KCWE
KSHB 41 on KMCI 38 The Spot

Bam. There.

Not even St. Louis, its neighbor city to the East of the state, has more than just one after 7AM.

Wow, if KC can handle four, then Charlotte surely can. I’m not even sure WCCB would even want to keep the CW. However, would Nexstar even want to give Fox back up to WCCB? They have another station to put CW on. The biggest thing is, WJZY and WMYT share spectrum so it might not be that easy for Gray to buy WMYT. But I sure wouldn’t mind.

Maybe Scripps might bring Ion to Charlotte either WAXN or WHKY even at expense of dropping news competitor in both morning and primetime news. Maybe a hispanic network like Univision or Telemundo since WSOC has Telemundo on 9.2. Charlotte has enough independents to get Ion or a Spanish network.
I've never understood why WAXN gave up Pax. The station already had good letters for that. When I complained about how the station wasn't doing a good job of carrying Pax programming the response was the station had a good relationship with Pax. Well, obviously not if Pax viewers weren't getting everything. By the time it became Ion, Charlotte didn't have it, unless Ion was a cable channel.

WHKY is the other option it can be used for more subchannels for Scripps rather than lease for affiliation

It wasn’t a full-time affiliate. Dr. Phil and Oprah repeats got good ratings in prime time and WSOC’s parent company bought it so it had a place to put its 10:00 news when WCCB started its own news. However they could’ve had Ion as a subchannel when those became a thing. Seems like WHKY would’ve made sense except it’s locally owned.

The only rule really is a team can't go into another's team primary market unless its allowed. Example is Charlotte where WSOC got the rights to the Commanders (Washington) and apparently WJZY signed off on it as they carry the Panthers.

Lubbock could carry the Chiefs if they wanted (ans someone paid for it)

Hawaii and Alaska have numerous teams on pre-season. Alaska has 5 teams and Honolulu has up to 7 teams games
LA and Bay Area still get Raiders

Be interesting to see here locally in San Francisco where Nexstar owned KRON TV has My Network as its affiliation will try and pull away the CBS owned duopoly station owned and operated where they have CW on KBCW TV and put it on KRON TV instead. I guess it could stay on KBCW where CBS still owns only 12% of CW...

I used to think if sports ever did make it on The CW, while being owned by both CBS and Warner Bros, it would have been the NCAA March Madness games since CBS, TBS, and TNT had the rights to air coverage.

Because of its short schedule of only two hours per night, it would be impractical for The CW to have sports coverage. I doubt the affiliates would go beyond the two-hour-a-night commitments that they made to the network. Furthermore, none of the major team sports leagues, except the MLS which is unavailable, has games that last two hours or less.

Just like they cancelled the Jerry Springer reruns they had for their daytime schedule just to launch a Saturday night primetime schedule.

It would be possible especially since its weird seeing the NCAA tournament on TruTv. I can never understand why CBS doesn’t have their own stand alone cable/satellite channel like NBC has USA and ABC has Freeform. At one time FOX had FX but now ABC owns it (still weird). I guess its all about $$$ and effort...

IMO, Kansas City can just barely handle 4 morning newscasts. KCTV has cancelled their KSMO-TV morning newscast at least twice in the past 12 years &, I think, for awhile it was just an encore presentation of KCTV's 6AM newscast.

I don't think they ever repeated that hour, but yes, it has been canceled before.
