CW20 rebrand

On their website (wtxx.com) they're no longer calling themselves CW20. Now they're marketing their call letters.

There has been a lot of speculation that the CW might cease to exist sometime soon. Many stations across the country are taking the CW out of their logo (see the National TV thread). But locally, I'm kind of surprised WTXX would drop the 20 out of their logo.

1. Maybe this has to do with DTV and being on 12 (even though we know it will redirect to 20)?

2. Maybe they're trying to associate more with FOX61, since they're increasing their news?
Instead of having to say "the FOX61 News at Ten on the CW20" they'll just have to say "FOX61 News on TXX" (versus on TIC).

I'm always weary of when a station either hides or alters it's actual channel number. In these duopolies, a lot of times the smaller station's identity suffers in order to make the larger station even more stronger. They used to do this at WTNH/WCTX. They used to say "NewsChannel 8 on WCTX", totally ignoring their channel number 59 and old network affiliation (UPN). I assume they trying not to confuse the viewer with all these different OTA and cable channel numbers, but a lot of us are smarter than that!

3. I don't know why they got rid of their current logo. Without the CW letters, the 20 with WTXX-TV beneath it is ALMOST identical to the WTXX-TV 20 logo they used in the 80s and 90s when independent, and even as a UPN affiliate. I thought bringing this logo back when the CW debuted was kind of like insurance in case the network went belly up. All they would have to do is remove the CW and everyone would recognize WTXX-TV 20. So I'm at a loss for this new rebrand and I'm kind of disappointed they scrapped the old familiar 20 logo again.

By the way, I haven't seen any changes on-air as of yet.

The Tribune stations are likely going to make the on air change by Monday (Labor Day).

What on-air change? You mean the website re-brand will go live on Monday?
Actually, I love it! It looks really fresh.

Now if only we could get rid of that stupid MY TV9 clone in New Haven.
