CW61 Adds Noon Newscast

Starting today, ABC15 added another hour of news on CW61 at Noon. Allison anchored the newscast with IRis doing the forecasts.

I just asked ABC 15 Arizona about this on Facebook and got a quick response... its permanent, meaning that KNXV now does two hours of midday news, one at 11am on ABC 15 and another at 12 Noon on CW 61.

Is it just a matter of time before they add a 9-10 PM newscast to compete with 3 and 10? They're airing Mike and Molly reruns in that timeslot now.

I think the day may come when we'll have local news on at least one channel between 4:30 AM and 11:00 PM. Right now, it's several longish blocks within that time frame, the only open block being 1 to 4 PM. For now.

4:30 - 5:00 AM: 3, 10, 12, 15
5:00 - 7:00 AM: 3, 5, 10, 12, 15
7:00 - 9:00 AM: 3, 10, 61
9:00 - 10:00 AM: 3, 10
10:00 - 11:00 AM: 45
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: 15, 45
12:00 - 12:30 PM: 3, 5, 10, 12, 61
12:30 - 1:00 PM: 12, 61

4:00 - 5:00 PM: 3, 10, 12, 15
5:00 - 5:30 PM: 3, 5, 10, 12, 15
5:30 - 6:00 PM: 3, 5, 10

7:00 - 8:00 PM: 45
8:00 - 9:00 PM: 3
9:00 - 10:00 PM: 3, 10
10:00 - 10:35 PM: 3, 5, 10, 12, 15
10:35 - 11:00 PM: 3, 10

I have one stupid question regarding Scripps' plans for 61 and ATSC 3.0: Will all programming move to 15.whatever, or will they keep 61 as PSIP even though that license and transmitter will be used for the new system?

I just wanna clarify a few things...

  1. KPHO is also on at 4:30 a.m.
  2. KPNX is temporarily doing hour-long news at noon during the pandemic. It'll return to 15-minute news at noon and Arizona Midday at 12:15 p.m. when its all sudden done.

Technically, 12 does 12@12 at Noon normally, which is 12 minutes of news followed by Arizona Midday at 12:15pm.

KASW streams will continue to use virtual channel 61.

Not a stupid question at all. CW and Grit programming on 61.1 and 61.3 will move over to KNXV-TV, but will continue to ID as 61.1 and 61.3. To make room, Antenna TV on 15.2 is going to move over to KSAZ-TV, keeping the 15.2 ID and the KFPH-CD's Court TV Mystery progrmming, currently on KNXV-TV, will move over to KPHO, keeping the channel 35.4 ID.

KASW's HSN programming on 61.2 will move over to KUTP, continuing to ID as 61.2, and Court TV Mystery programming on 61.4 will move over to KSAZ-TV, continuing to ID as 61.4.

At least, that was the tenatative plan.

I wonder if they're just postponing the musical chairs until after things settle down. I'm sure not going to look forward to even more video deterioration for the sake of emerging technology.

Someone in another forum who claims to have worked on the ATSC 3.0 deployment has stated that the delay in switching KASW over to ATSC 3.0 is due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so I guess we'll need to wait until this all blows over before KASW goes NextGen.
