CW7 KAZT to Get 9 PM Newscast in Mid-August

Apparently CW7 KAZT will be getting a 9 PM Newscast in Mid-August. No other details released by Nexstar. I'm not sure if KPNX 12 News can produce the Newscast while TEGNA is under a hold separate order. Maybe it will be produced by another Nexstar station?

According to what I'm seeing on the Broadcast Plaza Discord, citing Nexstar employees on LinkedIn, it'll be from 12News.

Found the Linkedin post. I wonder if this will violate the "Hold Separate" court order. As it is, the State Attorney Generals filed today claiming that Nexstar is already violating the "Hold Separate" order by appointing Nexstar executives to TEGNA's board of directors.

New primetime newscast will expand access to local news and information for viewers across the Phoenix Television Market

PHOENIX- KAZT-TV (CW7 Arizona) today announced the launch of "12News on CW7 Arizona at 9," a new primetime local newscast airing seven nights a week beginning August 15.

The hour-long newscast will air Monday through Friday from 9 to 10 p.m., with a 30-minute edition airing Saturdays and Sundays from 9 to 9:30 p.m. Produced by 12News, the newscast will deliver comprehensive coverage of the day's top stories, breaking news, weather and sports to viewers across Arizona.

The launch represents a significant expansion of local programming on CW7 Arizona and provides Phoenix-area viewers with a new option for trusted local news at 9 p.m. It also reflects the station's ongoing commitment to localism and to delivering programming that informs, entertains and celebrates the communities it serves.

"We're excited to launch daily primetime newscasts in two of the country's top-12 markets and provide viewers with a new outlet for news and information that didn't exist previously," said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar's broadcasting division. "Nexstar is committed to serving our communities with high-quality, fact-based local journalism, which is particularly important now, as the mid-term elections approach and voters look for reliable, credible information about the issues and the candidates running for office."

"12News on CW7 Arizona at 9" will complement the station's growing lineup of local programming, including "The Daily Mix," the popular lifestyle show hosted by Brad Perry and Teresa Strasser, as well as additional locally produced daytime programs scheduled to launch soon.

Further demonstrating its commitment to local programming, CW7 Arizona is pleased to bring back the 'Fiesta Bowl High School Showdown, an 11-week series featuring compelling high school football matchups from across the Valley. The series will spotlight talented student-athletes, their schools and the communities that support them while celebrating the tradition and excitement of Arizona high school football.

CW7 Arizona (KAZT-TV) Arizona also delivers The CW Network's expanding lineup of premium entertainment and live sports. The network's sports portfolio includes the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, WWE NXT, ACC, Pac-12 and Mountain West college football and men's and women's basketball, AVP beach volleyball, PBR Team Series events & Professional Bowlers Association competition. The CW will also broadcast the 2026 Arizona Bowl, providing Arizona sports fans with another marquee event on free, over-the-air television. The CW's premium national programming also includes the Miss USA & Miss Teen USA competitions.

KAZT-TV is owned by Londen Media Group, LLC, and operated by Nexstar Media Group under a Time Brokerage Agreement.

Guess we will see tomorrow if KAZT and/or KPNX post this story on their websites or if the Linkedin post disappears. Also, I noticed the Linkedin post mentions there will be other local produced daytime shows coming to KAZT "soon." I wonder if those will be produced by KPNX also or by KAZT.

Or, possibly, will they just "borrow" local programming for KPNX like Arizona Midday, Sunday Square Off, and streaming shows like "Momcast" and 12News specials.

I wonder if the 9pm news will have a different anchor team like potentially Troy Hayden and Tram Mai (I guess Tram would have to give up the midday news).
 
I wonder if they will rename Arizona Midday to Great Day Arizona. Like how here in Colorado Nexstar payed sponsord show is called Great Day Colorado and other states its called great day and the states name. Probably more local programing is comming to CW7 because some sindicated shows are ending.
