D&C update (Scott's Shots BSMW)_

http://www.bostonsportsmedia.com/shots/

Looks like Dennis' vacation was _planned_, and the negotations with WEEI continue...also Gerry may be back as soon as Monday.

by the way the confusion as to whether or not WRKO is the Sox flagship continues, as Joe C. during Sox games has mentioned next week's Jimmy Fund radiothon which will have a Sox-Angels doubleheader as part of
it next Friday. Both the radiothon and the Sox games will air on the Sox flagship...WRKO? No, WEEI.
Silly me, I forgot that WEEI is the flagship of the WRKO Red Sox Radio Network and you really should just have pushbuttons for both stations on your radio because if the game isn't on one station, it's on the other.
Or, on both. Wed. night and afternoon games? WEEI. Friday night games? WRKO, except when there's
a radiothon, which means they're on WEEI. Or is WRKO carrying the night game, too?

As Howie Carr's co-star in A CIVIL ACTION (currently seen in drag in HAIRSPRAY) used to say on
a 1970s sitcom, "I am so confused" :)

I still wonder about this vacation being planned. These guys usually talk about upcoming vacations for the entire week before. I don't recall Dennis mentioning it until the crossover on his last day, and Dale Arnold sounded surprised. I guess that the proof will be whether or not he shows up for the Jimmy Fund Radio/Telethon later this week.

While on the subject of WEEI, can advertisers get their money back when the product that they're paying for is clearly substandard? This past week has been unbelievable. The only regular host to work the entire week was Dale Arnold. Even flash guys and producers were out. This wouldn't be too bad, but the substitutes were gawd-awful.

I owned a hardware store in the 90s and used to advertise on WTAG, WSRS, and WORC out here in the Worcester area. The services were expensive, I can only imagine what WEEI's rates are. I'm sure that Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds, and big companies are unconcerned, if they are even aware, but how about small, local businesses who are watching their pennies? I know I'd want my money back after this week. As a matter of fact the whole summer has been pretty bad.

I listen to WEEI unless I hear Mustard, Johnson, Butch Sterns, or Jerry Callahan. The rest of the people I can stomach. That being said, Sterns hosting the Big Show on Friday was horrendous. I tuned in hoping for some patriots talk. After he butchered (no pun intended) several Patriots players names, I tuned out. Craig and Larry are horrible and how they still have a show, I do not know. Do you think a Yankees shill and a Red Sox fan host a Saturday morning call in show on WFAN?

These last few weeks must have been throw away weeks as far as WEEI is concerned. The only time I religiously listened was during Dale and Holley because they actually had some semblance of a show.

BTW, who was filling in with Steve Burton on the morning show a few days last week? Was it the stadium guy from Gillette?

I absolutely agree with your un-holy four. Callahan is a rude, cheap shot coward, Mustard is a smarmy jerk, Johnson is absolutely pathetic... bad accent and grammar, sissy boy voice, and no sports knowledge. If Butch Sterns was older I'd swear that Ted Baxter was modeled after him.

Wow this is a tough thread. I still maintain that all EEI talent --with the exception of Ordway-- is fungible. The entire staff could leave--except Glen--and it would take about 3 hours to get capable replacements. Why they would pay the rumored mega-salries to D&C is beyond comprehension.

Yup that was him. He's been doing some work on ESPNr as well, the last month. He's an ok talk host, but a very legit play-by-play man who BC stupidly got rid of for Meter.

John Dennis is still out. I think Thursday will tell the tale. If he's out for the Jimmy Fund Radiothon, there's some serious negotiation going on ....hold 'em or fold 'em.

I would think that a station with 'EEI's ratings would have a long line of substitutes ready to go during the summer. But instead it's Mustard and Johnson. Just once I would like to hear Larry Johnson make it through a show without mentioning his cancer, his religion (Conn. School of Theology... ordination in days, not years) or that fact that he's a "homey from the hood".......the mean streets of Canton.

The last couple of days they've empowered their Yankee vermin callers, who are afraid to call any other shows, to call during the week. Enough is enough.
