D.C., You're Still Getting A Dance Station

Well what is the station thats on there now?? It almost sounds like a Spanish TV station. Reception is spotty in NW Wash but good signal in NoVa.

Very true, I was on my way to drop off my dad in IAD today. The signal itself sounded like Z-104 when driving through exits 355 and 185 but major improvement right at 97 going forward, and crystal clear in NOVA. It is going to be little tough because there are tons of youngsters in Bethesda, Chevy Chase that loves EDM and those fans will likely not able to hear everything.

I hope it doesn't sound as bad as Pulse 87 here in NYC. Mega is targeting Hispanics and Italians here with Guido Dance. A lot late 80s Freeestyle and current music that sounds like some of the rejected tracks from back in the day.

DC doesn't have many Italians and the Hispanics are not Puerto Rican or Dominican. Tony, what kind of Dance lean do you think Mega will do in DC?

I will say this, for a Pulse 87 to work down there, the dance music lean has to go more afrocentric. Artists like Ultra Nate, Crystal Waters and local producers such as B.T. and Deep Dish will work out well for the area. Freestyle was never as popular in D.C. as it is in New York or Philly so that would be a HUGE mistake for Pulse DC to attempt that sound.

Nothing yet. I was recording last night.........got the last few 'spanish' songs on "ocho siete punto siete" an shortly after midnight it went silent. Been dead air ever since.......no stunting....nothing. I hadn't heard it was June 1st though. I understood it to be 'sometime' in June. And this spanish station has been known to goto dead air before. As of 7pm though, almost 20 hours of dead air.

Stupid question but is 20 hours of dead air normal for this station? :-\

I'm saying that because when Pulse launched here in New York, it took some time. They were supposed to originally launch on January 15th, but Star wasn't ready yet as he was recovering from a liver transplant. But they did keep the Russian format going until February 11th, the actual launch of Pulse.

I don't know what's happening down in DC. Though something tells me that if this station launches, you'll be getting a simulcast from NYC.

Not sure what normal is either. Have not turned this station on very much, but I have heard dead air for a prolonged period of time before.

I've never heard a DJ either. I've heard spanish music, obviously, an sometimes I've heard some sort of.......well, best way I can describe it......if it was a TV station, it sounded like a cartoon, in spanish of course. But never a dj or even a TOH id, but then I really have only listened a handfull of times.

How good is the signal, anyways, in DC proper?? Says transmitter is in Northern VA, and power and antenna height isn't that much....So are we talking about "DC, You Are Getting A Dance Station!!", or more like "Northern Virginia, You Are Getting A Dance Station!"??

I agree. Pop Dance and some Crystal Waters (Silver Spring,MD),Ultra Nate (Baltimore) and Code Red Recordings (Baltimore). Throw in some of Trance for the Dupont & Logan Circles crowd and you have a station. The station should be about 40 percent Pop Dance.

I hope your right. I prefer more popular dance myself as well as remix's of Top40 songs. Not real crazy about 'freestyle', although I did buy some "KTU Freestyle" cd's off ebay but not too crazy about it. I used to love the show "American Dance Trax" with Jeff Wyatt. What do you think the chances of Pulse DC picking up a comercial countdown show? ie: "The Remix Top 40 countdown, w/ Hollywood Hamilton". Pulse can't air this in NYC as KTU quickly signed up for this show.

.....and still dead air 87.7.

If the station was transferred to Mega Media at midnight June 1, wouldn't it be better to just play non-stop dance music than non-stop dead air?

I wish Atlanta had a Dance Station, the only way I can listen to Dance Music(Along with Ambient and Electronica) is online. ::)

Is there a website available?

Not that I'm aware of.

I listened to the lifeless station today an if any of you out-of-towners use air travel, if you schedule any layovers in DC you should be able to hear Pulse from either National or Dulles airports, assuming they ever get off the ground. Unlikely they reach BWI though.

DC's newest station, "Nada ocho siete punto siete!"

sometime overnight, the station went silent again. Musica resumen a las Once a.m.

I think its more or less a Christian Spanish station; I've beenlistening to it more lately.

....still no pulse
