D/FW radio SUCKS

The best station I have come across in a LOOOOOOOOOONG time is www.energy927fm.com I guess it helps to not be owned by CC, ABC or Infinity. Click "Listen Live" and at least give it a try and tell me why this won't work here????????? Thanks.

Better yet, who in DFW would actually take the risk? In a market where almost every other station blends in, why have one that stands out? The Jack is probably the most extreme in this market being a hybrid iPod. Listeners in this market have settled for the same status quo for so long they've turned into puppets. Most of the masters are sitting at the Tollway and Spring Valley just pulling on their strings.

I don't think the Ticket sucks. I also don't think that KERA 90.1 sucks. Sometimes Mix 102.9 doesn't suck. Oh and the Edge doesn't suck all the time. Air America at 910am is fun to listen to sometimes. As well as 570 KLIF.

But you know what I do when I can't find anything to listen to? I put a CD in that little slot on my car stereo and listen to that instead. You should try it sometime.

Im sick of everyone covering for this market lacks. I agree with jeff, this market sucks badly and is devoid of any real innovation. The "Energy" format would do well in D/FW but prolly wouldnt make all the pick-up driving hicks or MILF soccer broads too happy.

Well, luckily I have figured out how to blast Energy from my PC to the outdoor speakers at my pool in suburban Fort Worth so hopefully I am bothering at least a few soccer moms. :-D

My friends and I will simply back up our Navigators and crank up Kidd Kraddick. ;)

I would agree with you half-way Jeff. DFW radio sucks almost every way. The only stations I listen to is The Edge, Jack, Wolf, Live, KSCS, and K104. Most of the market is covered by adult contemporary, hip-hop, spanish, talk on the AM dial, and classic hits. This market should get a decent top 40 station, a modern/active rocker (both would be great), flip Mix to modern AC and focus on 90's and today's music and dump all those 80's, and dump Casa or 99.1 (we don't need two hurrrrrrbans).
______________

No wonder DFW has been expereincing several red level ozone advisories as of late. Suv exhaust fumes and Karaddick combined? That could eliminate any life form as we know it.

Hurban, what a complete and total filler format that is(like the nitrates in the casing of the dallas radio hotdog). In my day, we called it "mexican woah-oh radio" (not to be confused by the Wall Of Voodoo song of the same title) :D

The problem is this...

Energy in SF has only recently really taken off as a competitor in that market. It took a PD with an innovative vision to make it work.

Dance-heavy formats are generally doomed-to-fail. A lot of the stuff that's gets played on Energy would be great for inside a club, but driving down I-30--not so great.

I think a format like Energy in Dallas would be refreshing but would fall to the same fate as KDL. Why? Not enough of a major audience for it.

The Edge has basically morphed into an alternative rock/active rock hybrid.

Active rock stations don't play Stereophonics and Alternative rockers don't play Pantera.
KDGE--by far the best station in this market.

KJKK--a close second.

KHKS--dreadful top 40 station. They're playing most of the right music. Top 40 means the top 40 records played and most of that would be rap/R&B. The sets need to be more creative and the DJ's need to simmer down. They all sound like they're on caffeine (less talk, less talk, less talk, pre-recorded spots--out of breath).

KVIL--sinking from what it used to be.

KASA--just sucks. Make it hurban or take it out of its misery. Dallas has enough of a hispanic population to warrant a reggaetron-heavy Hurban.

Mix--yuck! Kill this soon, please! Jack does all the mixing I need in this market.

Aha...and Chris Shebel has now departed. OOPS! Internal problems @ Energy could spell the end.

It may sound great...and it does, but you gotta ask, why is a station like this not doing well in the ratings? Is it that a major company wouldn't spend the cash for a weak signal like this? If this same smaller company had a better signal, would they stll put this format on? And why, after less than 6 months did Chris Sheibel leave a format he has become known for?
______________

Hey! That's my line!

Re: The problem is this...

Mix needs an enema, plain and simple.

If you look at the numbers, every station is continuing to drop. Why? It's very simple. People are fed up. In today's day and age, people have more options on how to get their music and where. More people listen to iPods, mp3s, and satellite radio then ever before. If you don't believe me, check out the Red Line coming out of downtown heading towards Plano any given weekday evening.

Could radio be going the way of the dinosaur? One never knows. However, listeners want more than what the monopolies are willing give them. Yes, numbers will rise, but they will continue to lose out in the long run.

I've said it before in other forums and aloud for the longest now. The radio landscape is stale and boring.
