D.J. Reunion

Has anyone ever thought about having a D.J. reunion in Albuquerque? If so, what station would be a good candidate to put together an event like this? It might make a great ratings promotion at a minimal cost to the station. Invite all former Albuquerque jocks form the 60's, 70's and 80's and have them as guests on the morning show or even have them do an hour or two on the air. Make this a week long event and on Friday host a meet and greet at one of the local night spots for the listners. The response could be impressive when you think of all the old stations like KQEO, the origional KRKE, KRST when it was album rock, KFMG, KZZX, KIVA and others. This could be a lot of fun for everyone.

That would be very difficult to put together, The jocks in the era you are refering to are either far, far away from Albuquerque, out of the biz, or dead. Another thing, it might be fun to see some old faces but it would have little interest to the radio listener. Besides, most of the listeners are listening to talk or oldies, not listening to radio at all, or dead, too.

Dead? I'm not dead! And I was on the air in Albuquerque in the 70's and 80's. Granted, looking for a jock from the 60's might be pushing it a bit. Oh wait, when did Bobby Box begin his Albuquerque career? By the way, I know of about six radio people from that era that are still in town and I've been away for quite awhile.

Would anybody even remember some of the names? Bill Stanbaugh, Frank Jaxon, Rusty Blades, Skid Roadie - from 94 Rock. What about KFMG - John Florence, Tom Marshall, Lenny Bloch, J P White, Michael Davis, Joanna London? Those were the old days when it was only two stations - and the people themselves had to be creative. Not many services where out there to help. If today's radio listener bumped into them on the street - would they remember?

I recall many of those names...remember when KRST was AOR (and when they went country); remember KFMG going on the air. And the many moods of 94.1 back in the late 70s/early 80s...as KRKE-FM (simulcast at times with KRKE-AM 610); later KWXL before becoming KZRR.

I think a better thread might be "where are they now"????

Skid Roadie is at KCFX in Kansas City now. We actually talked about his time at 94 Rock about five years ago when I ran into him during a remote.

Well, if anyone ever decides to do a DJ reunion I would be curious to see old friends. I am Joanna London...or at least I used to be back in '84-'87 at KFMG. I am sort of out of the business now. I just teach it rather than do it, but I still try to keep up with where people are. Michael Davis is programming a station in Monteray, California. And Lenny Bloch was in NYC a couple of years ago. I think he is still there. Where is Tom Marshall these days?

Joanna

Joanna, did you leave KFMG for KOB-FM using a diffrent on air name name? If so, I'd really love to hear from

you.

I still believe a D.J. Reunion could create interest among some of us "old timers" and be part of a

station promotion that would be benificial to the ratings of a radio station that targets listners in the 45-59

demos.

Hi Chilly,

No, I went to KUPD in Phoenix using the same name. After that I came back east and worked for a few more years before going back to college and getting my teaching certification. Are you still in the business? Where did you work?

Joanna

Joanna, I was in Albuquerque from the mid '70's to 1990. I was at the origional KRKE, KZZX, KOB-FM and

KMGA. I was known as "Chris Cary". I retired from radio in 2001 after 10 years in Sacramento at KGBY. I'm

currently in casino marketing. I'm in the process of moving from northern California back to

Albuquerque. I can't wait to get back!

Chris Cary.......that name rings a bell. Were you friends with Bari Hennigan? Someone I was friends with in Albuquerque was friends with you....and I think it might have been Bari. Or at least whoever it was...she used to talk about you all the time. So what got you involved in casino marketing?

Joanne, I knew Bari vey well. I knew she didn't use her real name at 108. But I couldn't remember what her

air name was. My bad. Like most people in radio, I'm outgoing and like talking to people. It makes a good

match for what I do at the casino. By the way, do you know what Bari is up to these days? You can email me at

[email protected]. Thanks.
