Listening to D-Tension on WFNX, his manner of speaking reminds me much of Bradley Jay. Anyone else agree? Or, is this just the way Boston men sound on the radio?
D-Tension has a bit of an unrefined way of speaking. I know they tried him out on the morning show, but I don't think that was cut out for him, and they switched him with Jim Ryan. I think D is better when the breaks are shorter and it has to be more music intensive. He also has some good parody music as well.
I worked with D and thought he sounded great on mornings. It started off shaky but when they pulled him off the show D and Henry had some god chemistry, parodies and bits going. The difference between week 1 and week 8 were big. He did a good job and would have grown into that role. Jim Ryan just doesn't have the personality for it. Since they switched I haven't heard D on nights but he seems like a perfect fit for nights and a music intensive show. He is a musician and is passionate about the music that FNX plays.
I didn't make the Bradley Jay connection but now that you mention it I can hear it. I am willing to bet that D was a BCN listener from way back. I also wouldn't say he's unrefined. He uses some slang and is casual but he is really smart. He riffed with Henry on the news and has filled in for Henry on news and is obviously knowledgeable and well read. he makes a lot of references that go over the audiences head, which might not be a great thing in the eyes of some suit somewhere but always made me laugh. He's a talented kid and I was surprised that he wasn't hired at another station when FNX laid him off a year ago. It's good to have him back on the air. His timing and sense of humor used to make me jealous.
