wow, I was in town over the weekend...the last time I was in Dallas was 3 years ago and DAAA WOLF was the best, it was different and transended the format while staying real to the fans. It was THE SOUND of Dallas. What the hell has happened to it? THe morning show was GOD AWFULL and the rest of the jocks just sound bored to death, where did all the techno beds and energy go? It seems the once allmighty WOLF is now 995 the mutt

You're right. It sucks. They've either fired or ran off the airstaff and replaced them with what you hear now. No more talk over beds, much less Barry Corbin, rock n roll mixed with country which works well at wedding receptions so it must be a winner.

One word. Cumeless. They killed a great station and a great work environment. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. It used to delight me to say I worked for the Wolf. Now, I'm just glad I'm gone. I feel so sorry for those left behind at the mothership.

Heard a rumor though that the classic rock sh!t is going away. The thing that I COULD NOT BELIEVE is that the jerkwads in Atlanta wanted them to stop saying "Texas Country!" Folks in Jaw-juh don't know anything about Texas culture (voice of experience here) and I don't care how much they paid for the station. Let the people who know a little something about the market program for the damn market. How hard is that??

For starters it makes too much common sense. That not Cumeless's strong suit. Its another "We have Sebastian"! miracle cure alls, when all he did was take a good station and muddled it like he has done to so many others and then left town. I am sure he has a"u-haul"on standby.

No no no, KPLEX... Not a u-haul

Sebastian uses a horse and cart.

Sebastion has a good track record with his formula of country sprinkled with classic rock and a no-hype (boring) presentation. This will be his most difficult challenge due to competition from LONESTAR which might appeal to some of the same lifegroup. The WOLF is basically being sandwiched between KSCS and LONESTAR.

I don't think Lonestar is the problem. During Cook's era they tried the classic rock/country mix as "Wide Open Country" on Saturday Nights only. The listeners HATED it.

So what did they do? Took it 24/7/365. 3 words for ya. Dee dee dee.

Programmers in Dallas don't understand the "Dallas" market enough.... how can we ever expect remote jerkwads to get it right. Too bad you can't cookie-cutter radio like you can a hamburger chain, and get some respect ! !

If Sebastian is a STRATEGIC THINKER he might think twice about that classic rock mix on the Wolf since Lonestar signed on. But don't most PD's think there Strategic Thinkers anyway ::)

Part of the problem is getting the right classic rock...

Last year, before the music was changed, KPLX's playlist was heavy songs with a little octane to them --- Jack Ingram/"Love You", Miranda Lambert/"Kerosene", Cross Canadian Ragweed/"Alabama", Shooter Jennings/"4th of July", etc. Tossing in ZZ Top/"Legs" or "La Grange" periodically would have been OK.

Now, since most of the Texas country was exiled, old sappy ballads added, and the other changes to make it sound like a country version of KVIL, "Legs" sounds a little odd surrounded by likes of Roseanne Cash/"Seven Year Ache" and Ronnie Milsap/"Smoky Mountain Rain" and much of the current Nashville country hits.

I don't see Lonestar as THAT much of a competitor. They are only playing a handful of country tunes now. And most of those are way old Willie or Merle. They're not playing much Ragweed, Randy Rodgers, or Jason Boland at all. I'd rather hear those bands than more of the same .38 Special, Mellencamp, Bad Company, and Black Crowes they've been playing for years. The Wolf is just not fun to listen to at all. I can only imagine what it's like to work over there. Cumulus is doin wonders with the Wolf and the Bone both

There's no reason why they could not play a Pat Green,
something like "Three Days" or even "Take Me Out To a Dance Hall",
followed by a "Smokey Mountain Rain" or a "Tennesse Flat Top Box".
It's just a matter of mixing it right, IMO. Heck, throw in a jingle
or something between the two if the eras or tempos don't sound
exactly right. I think the older crowd would enjoy the occasional
"flashbacks". We used to listen to Deborah Allen's "Baby I Lied"
way before Big and Rich or Rascal Flats started rocking. ;)
