Dagmar

Rumor mill was telling me Friday that she's out. Anyone know?

Jeeze... I had a lunch event at church yesterday. The folks at my table started talking about local news... they ended up making fun of Dagmar. So, it is not just us broadcast junkies.

Management at WGCL-TV (along with Meredith by allowing this to persist) have made a joke of the news operation of "CBS Atlanta" by letting some lady whom has no official training and apparently not real personal knowledge of weather doing the on-air forecasts during key timeslots. The news brand at the station was respected in the market prior to Meredith's ownership. The chickens were bound to come home to roost with this chain of idiocy...

Wow...nobody had any idea. Her boyfriend committed suicide last year, and she has had issues coping with his death since then. I know this is a sensative issue, and she probably didn't want many to know how she was feeling. I am glad she sat down with Rodney Ho and talked about it.

Many people probably wish they could take back some of their comments they have made about her now, knowing what she was going through. I hope she gets better, and she finds work soon.

At least one poster on the TV Spy Watercooler claiming to be an Atlanta market insider says it's total B.S., a sob story concocted to break her contract. Having no such inside knowledge myself, I tend to believe her, although it's hard to see why someone with her magnetic personality would be content to be tied down to the last-place station in town as the weather girl.

My understanding is that she did want it publicly known. But the mental duress she has been under this past year probably led her to go public. Rodney did without her boyfriend's name out of respect for his family. If she wasn't under this kind of stress (which I am calling that...since I am not a mental health expert), she would have kept quiet.

Nonetheless...it probably is a good idea she went public. People continuing bashing her because they didn't know what was really going on would only make things worse.

WGCL was the only television station in a major market that would hire Dagmar because they are in last place, and they wanted to take a risk. Any other TV station would not have touched her with a 10 meter cattle prod because of her lack of qualifications. People are bashing her due of the lack of these qualifications. Nobody that I am aware of is after her personally.

These types of stresses affect different people in different ways. Many can go about normally, and others develop these problems. Relocating will help. It sounds like her love of animals could hopefully lead to a path working with them if she chooses not to stay in TV. She has a lot to offer others, on camera and off. I hope she finds whatever will relieve her of these "stresses", and will put her back in a good mood. I wish her the best of luck.

I have to say I've got my suspicions, since they've (Dagmar and WGCL management) been going back and forth about coming to terms to get her out of her contract early for a while, that she would take the Friday before Labor Day, a day that most management will not be in the office and just about nobody will be in the office Monday, either, to put in her notice, then meet with Rodney for the scoop, when the status quo is "no comment" for a while.

However, I lost my nephew in '07 to a tragic accident at work. This year alone, I lost my Dad and my wife's Stepdad within two weeks of each other, and three weeks after that her (my wife) biological father suffered a serious accident at work. So, I can relate to traumatic stress. A lot of us (myself included) are jealous and rag Dagmar because her "qualifications" is only pretty much the Canadian equivilant to the Connecticuit School of Broadcasting, and she's turned that into a success. In a way, though, she's also been a cheer for me for this as I say to myself "well, if Dagmar did it"

I don't even wish on my worst enemy the distress caused by losing a loved one to suicide. I wish Dagmar the best, and hope she can find hope and comfort.

I saw this coming a long time ago. After hiring Chris Martinez and Justin Lock it was only a matter of time. During weather segments both Dagmar and Chris were doing the reports at 4, 6 and 11. Chris Martinez is called the "severe weather expert" which basically means he'll become the chief meterologist.

.......guess they're out looking for jobs.

OBSERVATION: It's odd that a sappy thread about somebody popping pills and trying to deal
with grief..............has more posts than a nice, happy thread about another person with stamina
who had lasted over 35 years.

I guess GRIEF triumps over HAPPINESS everytime.
