Dale Arnold: What radio God did he offend?

A

I know that a lot of people reading this board would love to have had Dale Arnold's radio career. I assume that Dale is doing well financially, but look at what he, who by all accounts is a nice guy and a gentleman, has had to endure. He was paired with the horrible Eddie Andelman for what seemed to be an eternity. He had to suffer through the "Yankee Elimination Party", scavenger hunts, no crossovers on either end of his show, and some of the stupidest and most embarrassing moments in radio.

He then was united with Motor Mouth Bob Neumier, who never got over the fact that he was always a second banana on TV, and who left because he had an inflated idea of what he was worth. He was then paired with Know-it-All Michael Holley who would always attempt to find fault with anything Dale said.

He abdicated his hockey job on NESN only to be unceremoniusly canned from his show on WEEI in favor of an untalented, inexperienced, and annoying nerd. He has been relegated to fill-in and weekend duties, being stuck with Kirk Minihane, a contrarian Felger wannabe. This week he is filling in for the vacationing D&C, and his co-host is a screwball, ex-football player and pro wrestler, who currently has a show in Miami, rather than one of the many available people from Boston.

Somebody up there doesn't like Dale.

I don't love Dale on the radio, but admire his passion for hockey.
I've often wondered why he of all people has found himself in the situations he has the last few years.
Dale & Holley was the one show that was/ would consistently beat the Sports Hub and they broke it up in desperation.

Dale got screwed my guess is that Ego-Man Holley insisted on seperating from Dale, thusly killing two shows, mid-day and aft-drive. As far as Neumier he was a dull second chair, oddly their was an edgy chemistry between Dale and Eddie. Dale's dislike came through the speaker and was great. With Eddie my favorite quote from him was "you know, the dead guy's son" when talking about Dale Earnhardt JR. What a stiff.

If there were any justice under Heaven...Dale would be the next play-by-play voice of the Patriots when Gil Santos retires.

Failing that, I wish the Red Sox could somehow find a place for him somewhere in the radio booth.

On last night's Big Show, Kirk Minihane went on a rant about the guy who poor Dale was stuck with this week. His name is Dan Silieo and I guess has has a checkered past in Florida. Anyway, Minihane claimed, and swore that he was seroius and it wasn't a shtick. that this guy had a lenghthy meeting with Jason Wolfe and, with a voice dripping of disgust, stated that he was sure this guy would be offered a job with "EEI. This was followed by the guy being lambasted on the "Whiner Line".

Minihane's comments were not too complimentary toward Jason Wolfe, and were echoed by Sheppard and Ryder. How vengeful is Jason Wolfe? Is Minihane in trouble? Or is this an act?

If they hire that guy it will kill that station dead. He was the worst guy I've ever heard on the radio. Wolfe's about to get fired Im sure with the way the ratings are. I know the are in search of a new morning show and midday show too.

Speaking of Dale, it was great to hear Dale on D&Cs show, those goons can't go away fast enough. Not that T&R are God's gift to morning-drive sports talk either, but at least they don't make my skin crawl. Planet Mikey isn't exactly boffo box-office, maybe there is a slot for Dale there?

Someone with a lot of talent that has been wasted by constant and flagrant sucking up to whoever signed his paycheck and whoever was pals with the people who signed his paycheck

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Someday, when you have nothing better to do, search this board to see how many times it's been predicted that Jason Wolfe will be fired. You will be amazed.

And no, it won't happen this time either.

I agree, Wolfe's probably not going anywhere. But what I wondered about was Minihane's comments. These weren't the usual short jokes. He didn't sound like he was trying to be funny. It was at the beginning of Friday's whiner line, so it might still be on the website. I don't know Jason Wolfe, but I have seen him described on this and other boards as an evil little man. I wonder how he will react to this open criticism especially when he has to be feeling some ratings heat. BTW, what happened to Julie Kahn?

Usually by people who don't know him either.

Interesting...just dl'ed the podcast and Minihane did lay on the criticism on Dan Sileo. Much harsher about upper management being interested in this guy.

That was the impression I got. It didn't seem like there was any kidding intended. Most bosses won't put up with talk like that in the office, never mind on the radio during drive time. If he had just taken shots at Sileo, it would have been one thing, but he went well beyond that.

I couldn't bare to listen to Patriots broadcasts if Dale ever returned.

Your nakedness aside, they could do a lot worse than Dale.

Meter, for example?
Good one.
