Is WEEI's "nice guy" headed up to the broadcast booth to fill the vacated seat of Glen Geffner?

as one of his early hockey producers, i'd not find any objection to that. his ability to commit to memory names, numbers, facts and stats is pretty damn impressive. (he was tested on photographic memory capability and scored 99%, iirc). he has a comfortable on-air delivery, and more than a working knowledge of the product.

just wonder if the pace of the game would be too slow for him, this thought coming after years of listening to him do hockey pbp.

I think dale will do just fine...as stated in other posts, he may be a bit squeaky clean, but a true pro on the air

Congrats Dale!! Joey C, w/ Dave O'Brien or Dale Arnold...not bad at all!! I can't wait for the season to start!?!

Dale said on his show today that he will be doing play-by-play with Joe when O'B has other contractual commitments (mostly Wednesdays for ESPN). According to Dale, he'll have about 30 games filling in for O'B, but he may also pick up a few if Joe has any absences.

The pace is obviously quite different from Hockey, but Dale is a pro who will do very well, I'd guess.

Oh OK; what I'd heard was that O'B had freed up a lot of time but I guess there still will be times
when Dale's needed.

>>30 games filling in for O'B

A fine choice. Just hope he can fill the departed Mr. G's shoes...... ;D

Does this mean that Dale will be blatantly 'neutered' when it comes to discussions about the Sox on the mid-day show? On the show, Dale was legendary for being a good 'company man' when discussing the Bruins with callers. Callers knew as much, and had fun tweaking his little nose about it. Any similar behavior with callers with regard to the Red Sox will be just as blatant.

In the end, he's got a pleasant enough voice for the job. As long as Dale doesn't develop his own repertoire of histrionics to describe a home run, he'll be fine.

Rather than speculate about Dale being a wise or foolish choice when it comes to RED SOX BASEBALL, why not give him a season to prove himself?

For many of us who have worked with him in the past...his on-air talents have been excellent...or at the very least satisfactory! Every broadcast talent should be permitted to prove him (or her) self when it comes to a new venture. ;)

On Dale and Holley and the Big Show I heard wisecracks anout Meterparel not getting the Sox job. He wasn't seriously considered for it, was he? His BC football announcing is awful. He tries to make every play into Bobby Thompson's homer. I assume he got the BC job because BC is looking for exposure on 'EEI. The Sox don't need any more exposure.

I think Dale is an excellent choice.

Oh God! Dale???? I guess that means that we'll have to hear him say "particularly" every 14 seconds during each broadcast. For a the radio broadcast, they need to bring back Denis Leary and Lenny Clarke...how hysterical were they when they called an inning on NESN!!!!!

Dale & Eddy are back! your new voice for Boston Red Sox Baseball

I'm glad to see Glenn Gefner go. He was TERRIBLE!

Gefner sounded like he was working for some High School station. Congrats to Dale.
