Okay, my critiques, limited to the 6 and 10 (or 9) shows:

KDFW/4 -- Leans toward sensationalism in their stories, but their field reporters (minus Becky Oliver) have a more polished, professional air about them. Don't know what to make of Steve Noviello, and I'm not at all convinced that James Rose's "Street Squad" reports are good for anything but filler. Dan Henry sounds a little too much like a Top 40 DJ, and Ron Jackson seems almost too laid back. I like Fil Alvarado from his days at KRLD, and Mike Doocy is solid on sports (but Max Morgan needs to ditch the "Hello Dallas Fort Worth, let's talk sports" intro -- it's goofy as hell). I usually watch 'em at 9, though, because Heather Hays and Steve Eagar seem to work well together on air. Don't like Clarice Tinsley or Baron James, though...James seems like he's too much of a clothes horse, and only seems to wear glasses as part of his "wardrobe" as opposed to vision correction.

KXAS/5 -- Mike Snyder and Jane McGarry have been around forever, but that doesn't make 'em my favorites. (Anybody notice Jane's been taking a lot of time off lately? Hmm....) Too often there's an air of "breathless excitement" surrounding their newscasts, and it's not justified. Some of their field reporters are solid, but they adopt the same presentation when they're on camera. I can't really name one reporter I like on 5. But when it comes to weather, David Finfrock is in a league of his own, and Rebecca Miller is pretty solid. Don't like Steve MacLaughlin or any of the fill-ins they've had on recently. Derek Castillo is good on sports, but I can't stand Newy Scruggs, and Cash (what the hell kind of name is that?!?) Sirois sounds like he just came from Waco. Or maybe Austin. I don't mind Kevin Cokely, and Meredith Land seems like a competent anchor, but Brendan Higgins needs to be ridden out of town on a rail.

WFAA/8 -- What can be said about these people that hasn't already been said? I've never been a fan of the revolving anchor concept, because it makes it too hard to settle for a favorite. That said, John McCaa and Gloria Campos are probably the second-most solid anchor team on the air. Macie Jepson seems consistently even-keeled, regardless of the story she's reading, and Jeff Brady brings some enthusiasm to the job (too bad Kathy Clements doesn't like him). I never could stand Dale Hansen, and Joe Strahan is trying too hard. As far as weather, Troy Dungan rates almost as highly as David Finfrock, but it seems as though he's beginning to lose his voice. Steve McCauley is good, but Greg Fields seems too low-key for Texas weather (although that might be a good thing). I'm not familiar enough with Pete Delkus to give a good critique. If it weren't for the constant technicall gaffes they'd still be right up near the top. Their reporters also seem solid, although it's too bad they shut down their Austin bureau (Shelly Kofler made a decent replacement for Nann Goplerud). The glory days are well behind 8, and I don't know that better days are ahead.

KTVT/11 -- As far as presentation goes, probably the most polished and professional of the four big ones. Tracy Rowlett is the dean of N. Texas newscasters, but he needs to be paired with someone more recognizable than Karen Borta. (Not Iola Johnson -- that experiment unfortunately failed.) Reporting staff seems about on par with the others, if not a notch above (I've always liked Bud Gillett for some reason). Kristine Kahanek should not be the chief meteorologist...she seems uncomfortable on the tosses, and we've all made comment of her presentation during severe weather. Mike Burger is much more solid and even-keeled. Babe Laufenberg needs a deeper voice, but other than that his sports presentation is solid. Brian Custer needs to drop the hip-hop, Stuart Scott sports attitude (although it's OK for Mavericks pre-game shows). Steve Dennis is too much of a smart-a$$ for me, but sometimes he makes some good observations.

KDAF/33 -- Not much going on here...seems like a small market operation, but Bob Goosman gives them a little credibility. I don't watch 'em enough to have much of an observation, except their weather computer is straight out of the 1980s and I hate Bob Irzyk.

Needless to say, I don't much like any of 'em. My favorite news team was John Beard and Kelly Lange at KNBC/4 in Los Angeles in the mid-'80s. Beyond that, they pretty much all pale in comparison.

I Always thought that Baron James looks like one of them "Pimp Preachers" you'd see at The Potters House, as well as heather hayes's leather neck. Steve Noviello is a bit too "Nelly" for my taste, makes you wonder on his sexual preference. Dan Henry is a very poor replacement for Tim Heller (Now chief meterologist at ABC 13 in Houston), some say ron jackson had a hand in him leaving. Max Miller needs to get the pink slip, doesnt hold a candle to Doocy.

I have a feeling JaM may get split up sooner or later, seeing jane is getting "Long In The Tooth" in this business, someone who uses the term "Snoopity Dogg" needs to reassess her career choices. I like David and Rebecca for the fact they have a handle on both the weather and the audience. Steve Mac is a televised trainwreck, blame the news director bringing him in. Derek is one of the better sports anchors in this market, I hope he stays on for a good long time, I also hope they get rid of New Dog as he frankly is not major market material. Cash has to go, no doubt about it. Same with Higgins, he's had his shot, time for someone with better chops...I say elise morgan, as she held her own at KWTX 10 in Waco or Wendy Wolfolk, whom I worked with at KXAN 36 in Austin.

WFAA is a joke, time to do a massive house cleaning, Save Gloria,John, Troy and McCauley. Dale barely does sports anymore, reminds me of the old lion you see at the zoo with gummy jaws and thinning mane. Strahan is just terrible, worse than Newey

I like Tracy, true elderstatesmen for this market, deserves more than Karen CyBorta (shes so...automotomic). KK needs to be moved into the weather office or back to her old job at Fox 7 in Austin, shes too skiddish for television. In her place, move up Mike Berger. Babe is solid, Custer and his "ghetto" thing is overplayed and Dennis need to cut the Doocy schtick.

WB33: They have a news department?? Crespo needs to buy a new expression, Freddy Barnes needs to get that eye looked at and Irzyk just stinks.

I agree with you 95% in your observations. Ch.4 is way too tabloid and Becky Oliver is a female "geraldo". Clarice is too prententious and she knows she will never be replaced. Mike doocy is okay with sports but when football season is here , its all Cowboys, and sooners all the time. Forget the fact that other trams play as well.
Ch.5 is trying hard to out do Ch.4. Mike Snyder is the closest to a living embodiment of "Ted Baxter" from the Mary TylerMoore show. David Finfrock is very good but when it comes to winter weather such as ice, snow, sleet he is usually 60% wrong. Jane McGarry should be relegated to Bobbie wygant's old job. All she wants to do is talk about entertainment celebrity stuff. Newy? Where in the world did they find him at and who in the hell decided to hire him?
Ch.8 Gloria, John MCCaa,Troy,Steve McCauley are the only reasons to watch Ch.8.along with Shipp. They need work ,especially with their TD or their software or both. Too many miscues, etc.
Ch.11 Tracy is indeed the DEAN. Karen Borta is fine, not grat but fine. Khrisitne can not handle the pressure, highs or lows or severe weather, Too many deer in the head light moments. Mike Burger is more suitable. Lauffenberg is bette than the other sportscasters. "He played the game" for starters. (Dale like Clarice is too arrogant.) Ch.11 is slowly catching on and that is the way to do it. They will be number one soon.

Ch.33"Kids WB" is more qualified. They are a series of train wrecks.

Anyone ever notice that Joe Trahan sounds like Dale Hanson, Junior--same inflection patterns and phrasing, even similarities (almost duplication) in facial expressions and body movement. Trahan at least seems OK with sports knowledge and the like, but he needs to be himself and develop his own schtick. But if he did, everyone would ask,"What's up with Joe? He used to sound so much like Dale." A no-win situation.

It was a wonder to most WHY Tim left the DFW market for Houston...but it was a bigger surprise to Houston to have Ed Brandon demoted....true he was getting long in the tooth....but to still have him on the air while Tim replaced him as Chief weather guy....hmmmmm Maybe Ron did have something to do with it but I bet Tim is happy with what he got at KTRK....

Ryan looks a little weird to me without his glasses btw....dont know why..

Ron had nothing to do with Tim leaving. They offered him huge buckets of money.

I disagree...I dont think Jackson tossed him on his ear personally, but probably had a hand in it. From what I know and what ive heard, Ron is like the Dale Hansen of weather at 4, what he says goes. Like Hansen, we barely see him on air anyways anymore, Im guessing he needs more time for his HAM radio. I also think anywhere tossing cash is better than staying at Fox 4.

Re: Morning DFW personalities

Okay, what about mornings? WFAA seems to be struggling to find some chemistry that works, KXAS pulls up even with number 1 FOX 4's GOOD DAY, and KTVT's pretty people continue to work hard. What are your thoughts? What about the train wreck that is UPN's Daily Buzz? Seriously, have you ever tried to watch that show? It's painful...

Take my word for it. Ron had nothing to do with him leaving.

Never heard any indication that Jackson had something to do with Heller's departure. I always heard that KTRK offered a deal that more than doubled his pay and KDFW couldn't match it.

Henry is okay, but no Heller. He's still better than Kahanek on 11.

If Ron were sooooo powerful, he would be chief met! I'm sure Houston offered buckets o' money to Tim.
