Dallas-Ft. Worth Arbitron Radio Ratings: February 2012

KXEZ's inferior signal has once again beaten their Sister Station in the ratings, albeit with a whopping 0.1, KHYI failed to chart at all.

KFXR was also a no show.

It makes you wonder just how many meters are out there. So someone with a meter did a fly by of KXEZ and that didn't happen for KHYI? Although there aren't many (probably more than KXEZ), KHYI *DOES* have listeners. So does FunAsia on 700AM but they never show up either. However, I think that's because the owners in Buffalo, N.Y. don't have it or 990AM encoding the PPM signal.

Q: If all your time is brokered, what do you care about PPM ratings?

The in tab for DFW is crazy low for a pop. of 5.2 million there aren't 5000 meters in the market.

Adults 25-54 pretty interesting ~ and when is the last time the ol KSCS won the 6+ beauty pageant against KPLX ?

And Look at KTFW, looks like the change to Hank- FM has been a huge bust so far - 0.1!

Gerryrigged FAIL.

If bumper stickers are any indication KHYI has tons of listeners in the north Dallas area.

15 stations including us (KHYI) did not show up. I talked to Arbitron back in Nov. and I was told that we did not meet MRS (minimum reporting standards) which I find odd given that even with our admittedly poor signal, our sister station which has, as pointed out here, an inferior signal, continues to show up month after month, as does KFWR, which doesn't even cover as much of the metroplex as we do. I live in Keller and can pick KHYI up in my car and on a portable radio inside my house, but KFWR I can't even pick up in my driveway. We just did a hugely successful concert event at South Fork Ranch on a rainy Saturday attended by thousands and I'm supposed to believe ppm numbers that pretty much dismiss our listening audience?

Sorry for venting, but I find it frustrating to see a station that I know has listeners, I see them at our events all the time in huge numbers, constantly not show up in the ppms.

I still think KHYI should do something with their antenna, at least raise it a bit so most of Dallas & Ft. Worth can hear the station.

The antenna was re-located, nearly doubled in height, ERP doubled. Limitations from FAA [DFW flight path restrictions] co-channel protection of Lawton & Longview requirements. All done. Next.........relocate 95.3 in Lawton & Longview.

KHYI sounds better & has better coverage than it did awhile back. Thank you for the improvements. If more can be done to the signal that would be awesome. But, I don't expect that it will be easy.

Chuck... pre PPM days, Ken didn't "subscribe" (ie: pay their ransom) to arbitron for years and 95.3 *NEVER* showed up. When he finally did, !!PRESTO!!... KHYI had listeners! It was a miracle. When the Marcos Rodriguez, Sr. family owned all but one of the Spanish language stations, they never showed up either. Ever wonder why? This is THE biggest racket the radio business has ever had. Always was... always will be. /arb rant

That may be why KFXR doesn't show either. Or it may be that I'm the only one listening. ;D

I miss Barry Horns 'by the numbers' breaking down the sports talker PPM's. If anyone has a subscription, a breakdown post of the big 3 sports sticks would be great to see.

KMGZ Lawton and KFRO-FM Longview aren't preventing KHYI from moving closer...KLTY is. FCC has second adjacent spacing rules as well (http://transition.fcc.gov/mb/audio/spacing/index.html). KHYI and KLTY need to be 65 miles (105 km for C2-C second adjacent spacing) apart. Actually, their licensed facilities are currently 62 miles apart... unless KLTY relocates, KHYI isn't moving closer.

You are correct. Move in, no way. Lawton & Longview change frequency, maybe. That in theory could make a re-class possible for KHYI, and a possible bump up of ERP. The tower is as tall as FAA will permit at present location [Gunter,TX.] These days, FCC seems most interested in public files, rather than 3 mile short spacing. The recent fines around the country speak volumes.

From Allaccess P18-49: KSCS, 14.6% / #9 to #3

Isn't it kind of embarrassing for KSCS's remaining Citadel staff?

Did they have it THAT wrong ?

Two points here:

First, the "existing staff" had been working hard since way back in 2011 and from September up to the present month had shown an increase in that demo. While the January to February increase was just over a half-point, the total increase over seven months has been just under two full points.

Second, the change in rank has as much to do with other stations, like KZPS and KVIL and KDGE and KDMX losing share in that demo, thus making any station with a gain look all the better.

What you have here is good, solid, competent programming and a good, solid, competent PD making small, month after month gains while at the same time other stations have not "held the fort" on their own shares.

Reading anything else into this is just not the proper conclusion and not supported by the facts, particularly when we note the overall decrease in sister station KPLX.
