Dallas has some great stations

I know that typically the point of the discussion on this board is to point out problems. Recently, I've been working in several cities in the northwest. I would like to point out that we do actually have some great radio in DFW including the following:
-KESS
-KHKS
-KPLX
-KSCS
-KEGL
-KKDA
-KEGL

I'm sure there will some agreements and disagreements. I just thought I would throw this out there.

Radio in the northeast must be a greek tragedy if DFW is good. If people sound bitter (and I am) it's because DFW radio was great about 15 years ago before corporate radio sunk their fangs into it.

I think you've probably hit it on the head -- DFW radio is much worse than it used to be, but since radio everywhere else has also deteriorated dramatically, we probably don't sound all that much worse than anywhere else.

It used to be great entertainment to listen to radio stations in other parts of the country when I was travelling, because each area would have something different from what I heard elsewhere. Now, however, it is just wading through a sea of endless repetitious and mediocre radio stations that could easily be exchanged from one city to another.

Anyone want to thank Corporate America for watering down good quality radio with crappy voice tracks and unlocalized personalities!!

jeffdfw = RadioTruth warmed over.

If it's Dallas radio it must suck.

So, tell us critic319, what do you think makes KEGL "Great Radio" ? ? ?

I'd like to know what you think ? ?

It will be very interesting to see the People Meter technology perfected. If they can accurately tell how many people are listening and when listeners are tuning out, I think it will really be an eye opener. While I'd like the data to say "your playlist is too bland" and "you're playing the same songs too much," I have a feeling it won't. If we learn anything from People Meter, it will probably be that the commercial breaks are too long and that the DJ is rambling on about something that is not very compelling. The only reason I say this is because I think the average listener is much more passive than we would like to believe.

As far as "Great Radio" goes, there are two sides of the issue. There is the personal taste side, just as there is for any form of art. For instance, I think "The Dark Knight" is a "great" movie and "Viva La Vida" is a "great" album. Someone else might disagree with me, and that's just fine. The second and more important issue, though, is the business side. A great radio station is one that is generates the highest ratings and/or sales dollars.

The PPM will only show listener statistics. But what the station actually will see, is an average, not "Joe Listener tuned out when we played Stairway To Heaven".

Does Dallas have any great radio that doesn't play the same 18 songs on a loop? I can easily replace any of those stations with my iPod and I won't have to listen to all the lawyer commercials.

KLLI was the only DFW station with fresh programming and they had to go and F it all up! I'm pissed.

Random songs and no DJ? Once again, my iPod does that.

DFW used to have some GREAT radio stations...

RIP :'( :
KLIF (when it was Top 40 on 1190)
KNUS
KBOX
KVIL (the REAL KVIL, not KVIL Lite)
KJMZ (100.3 JAMZ)
KZEW (98 The Zoo)
KTXQ (when it was Q102, not Jammin' Oldies)
KDGE (when it was 94.5 The Edge, signal sucked, but the music was great)
KKDA-FM (K104, when it was R&B, instead of mostly Rap, but that's just about any Urban station in the country these days)
KOAI (106.1 or 107.5 The Oasis)
KPLX (99 and 1/2 K-Plex)
KHYI (Y95)

Right now, the "Great" choices would be
KLUV
KTCK
KSCS
WBAP
KRLD
KHKS (sometimes, not all the time)
KDMX (sometimes, not all the time)
but even this list does not compare, to the RIP list.

In DFW's defense, Houston is just as bad.
